Son is eight- ADHD. We went to Lake Tahoe- we've done fancier trips, but this was by far the best family vacation we've had. DS got plenty of sleep, good food, and a lot of activity. 99% relaxing for all of us.
Can you talk more about where you stayed and what types of things you did while there?
Sure- we stayed at the Hyatt Lake Tahoe resort in the Nevada side. It was ideal- close to the beach, and had a really nice swimming pool amd firepit for s'mores. Good restaurants onsite but easy waling or short drive to local restaurants. We spent a full week- we went to the beach, DS and DH went parasailing, we drove around the lake (never been before, so we tried to see all of it). We took a gondola up one of the mountains- DS did a ropes course at the top (big success). Short hikes. Pool time in the AM. Really, it was perfect- a lot of variety and physical activity. The kids club was expensive so we only used it the one night when DH and I went to a local gourmet restaurant. Frankly, the mountain air, good food and activity leveled DS out so much that or was a relaxing vacation for everyone. We're for sure going back next year- counting the months.
Sorry for the typos- I'm not wearing my glasses!
Also wanted to say fancier trips (we've done some cruises, nothing over the top) have been harder with the ADHD. Too much stimulation, too little sleep, and inconsistent food quality. When we want to do something adult (I asked about an upcoming San Francisco trip in a senate thread) we have to tailor it to meet my son's needs. Cities in Europe would be an en expensive, fraught waste of time right now. We are saving to try Costa Rica in a few years- I think DS would be over the moon to experience the biodiversity and variety of activities in a place like that.
