| The atmosphere is such that kids who want to leave are branded losers. Peers and staff can be nasty about it. See 12:56 above. It's difficult to leave, but it's more than fine once it happens. |

Yes. Totally our experience. |

If a kid/family decides Landon isn't for him, he is branded a traitor (as if he is obligated to finish his school years at Landon). I've been to many a sporting event where the Landon student body yells vicious taunts and jeers whenever someone who leaves touches the ball.
And the parents either say nothing or chuckle about it. That's all you need to know about that place. |

I love the brotherhood at the school. My son loved every second of his experience there
And cry me a river, when a kid is recruited to Bullis to play basketball or football, and the students jeer or boo the student during the game or brand him as a traitor, some of you all are softies. |
You are a POS. A kid from St. Albans was just recruited to play lacrosse at Landon (entering his sophomore year). Do you think STA kids and parents will ride him? Nope. And so what if a kid is "recruited"? That means it's ok to act like an imbecile? Thanks to demonstrating the Landon mentality. |
And there we have a fine example of what makes Landon such a special place.... |
Damn right. |
| Clearly the new HOS has his work cut out for him. Tree. Apple. Fall. Far? Not much. |
| It doesn't matter if the boys being jeered were recruited away or just decided to leave on their own (the horror!) When he steps onto the field or the court, the Landon boys are equal opportunity hazers. Good sportsmanship at its finest. |
Add it up. It is fact. There was indeed an exodus this year. |
| Why is everyone so quick to jump on Landon? I have a son at STA, and while we love the school, it has its fair share of problems. There was a lower school student who brought a knife to school and threatened another student, but no one is talking about that. I don't think the school handled that situation well at all. There was very little communication about it to families at the school, and my son happened to witness the event. So I think that jumping on Landon for "boorish" behavior, while at the same time ignoring an incident where a student brought a weapon to school and threatened another student, is a complete double standard. |

I don't think the issue with Landon is incident based (like the one you point out at STA), but more culture based. It is about how students treat each other and the attitudes that they develop while they are there (parents alike). I don't know much about Landon or STA other than what I have read here, and both schools were not on our list of potential schools for my DS. But it sounds like there are too many former and current parents that are unhappy with the culture at Landon. Considering culture is one of the more important aspects of a school in our eyes, I certainly would not want to send my son there. |
