Yeah, right. |
Perhaps you should reconsider as they might have had a chance at improved grammar. On a more serious note, Jim Neill was a very impressive leader at NPS. The outplacement record is impressive. Additionally, it is pretty much the only school on this board where I've never heard a complaint from parents whose children attend the school. It would be very difficult to visit the school and not be impressed. The admissions team was the most professional and organized of any we encountered. We didn't know much about the school either, but felt compelled to visit after hearing repeated raves from current parents. We're very glad to be part of the community and believe it's a great place for our child. |
| We'll be looking at Landon for next year. Jim Neill is great! |
| Sounds like the new HOS is great. But Landon has been around a long time. Breaking the cycle of boorish behavior and misogyny isn't going to happen anytime soon. |
Not the PP here. My various DC have gone to five different private schools in DC and MoCo over the years and in all kindness I have to say that NPS does a pretty good job at flying under the proverbial radar. ) |
Yes, NPS is small. Yes, it's not very well known outside of the DC area. But Jim Neill really made that school one of the happiest and supportive schools I have ever been a part of. He was one of the main leaders in forging the school's strong outplacement results of the past few years. He can't improve Landon's past record, but I am confident he will be nothing but a wonderful addition to that school. -NPS and STA Alum |

Agree with PP. Here is the outplacement record for the past five years (under Jim Neill). Consider that the outgoing class averages about 30 students (plus or minus) a year. It's pretty impressive for a school that no one seems to have heard about.

I am an Beauvoir/NCS/STA and have only heard only AMAZING things about Jim Neill. What a great hire for Landon and I am very excited for the school community.
The whole greater DMV benefits from having inspiring leadership and strong schools and I couldn't be happier for Landon. |

| Hopefully Jim will be empowered to do what he needs to do in order to spur real change at Landon. The problems at the school run deep. Unfortunately, there was an exodus of really great families from Landon last year for whom Jim's hiring just came a little too late. |
+1 |
| Why did a bunch of families leave, PP? |
|
There was no exodus last year troll.

This is not true. We are a new Landon family and the school we experienced is nothing like the cartoonish characterizations I've read on this site. In fact, some of these posts over the years made me think twice (well, 3 times, 4 times, etc.!) about whether I wanted to even look at Landon for my son. Well, I am so glad I did! We found a warm, nurturing community, committed teachers, mentors and coaches….and so much more. Have there been troubles in the past with students - yes. Will kids at every school make mistakes - sure. Do other private (and public) schools have trouble - yes. Should an entire school -- or the boys who are currently enrolled -- be maligned by judgments about past actions of other people? Of course not! Are the intelligent, reasonable parents who look for wonderful educational opportunities for their boys smart enough to decide for themselves whether Landon is a good place - you bet. |
| As a Landon family for 10 years, it is absolutely true. I get it why you are defensive and why you want to find a way to convince everyone around you that Landon is the wonderful place you hope it one day will be. I did that for years and tried not to notice, or care about, the reaction that people had, and tried to hide, when I told them my DS went to Landon. I'm not sure what grade your DS is in, or how long you have been there, but I hope Landon continues to be Nirvana for you. And yes, you are right. Every parent should find the community that they think is best for their son. I'm happy for you that you have found what you think is best for your family. That is what we all want for our children, after all. Best of luck to you. |
