Admissions and Applicants from Divorced Students

Wait, if the parents have joint legal custody (even if physical custody is with one parent), don't both parents have the legal right to receive reports, etc. Who pays the tuition is not particularly relevant. And even if legal custody is with one parent, as long as there is visitation and the second parent has not lost parental rights, I would think the non-custodial parent would have the right to demand to be kept "in the loop". Am I wrong?

I'm new, and we are both financially responsible for tuition and co-parent well, but my impression from the forms I was asked to fill out for the school my child will attend was that both parents were entitled to information unless (a) I produced a court order/written agreement that the other parent was not entitled to the information, or (b) we both executed the form indicating that the other parent was not entitled to the information. Absent that, the school would not withhold information.

12:41 If only one parent signs the contract, my sense is that the school only has a legal and financial relationship with that parent whatever the custody status. That signatory parent can share all communication with the other parent or authorize the school to do so. I do not see this as a big deal. Schools should not be dragged into custody disputes.

Exactly, this is what I meant. No, schools don't want to be dragged into custody disputes. That's why our school uses the sigs on enrollment contracts as their guide when dealing with divorced families.

13:39 I think some schools require both to sign, now that I think of it. Of course both parents can sign and one can cover 100%.
