Asian students dominate admissions to elite Thomas Jefferson High School

Wow, the barely contained racism in this thread is appalling.

The number of applications to TJ keeps going down.

Class of 2016: 3423
Class of 2017: 3121
Class of 2018: 2900
Class of 2019: 2841

That's a 17% decline over just three years. Why is the school losing its appeal?

White kids are afraid of competing with Asian kids (too much work mommy...) and their parents want to denigrate TJ any way they can since if they cant't have it then it's not worth having.

Or maybe the white kids actually realize that there is more to life than constant prepping when Fairfax offers great high schools. I see your poor Asian kids with blank stares begging for parental approval. What happens when they do not get into TJ after YEARS of prepping and constant pressure to excel? Does the Asian parent hide in shame and belittle her child for not trying hard enough?

Do the white parents who try so desperately to get their kid into an Ivy through legacy run and hide in shame when their kid doesn't get in?

Typical. Why don't you try to answer my question? Is the questions posed to difficult address because you know it is true?

No, I think they pretend that it's not the "prestige" but which college is a "best fit." Since most top universities including most Ivys are very competitive and filled with prepped kids, Asians would be perfect for almost all of the top universities since whites are always whining about how Asians are prepped and prepped.

LOL! I'm not the PP so I can't really answer your question. My kids are still in ES, and we don't pressure our kids, nor have they ever been tutored or prepped.

But, if I had to guess, I'm thinking the answer to both questions is, yes, some parents, Asian or White, are embarrassed or ashamed that their kids didn't get into TJ or that parent's Ivy alma mater.

Why don't you try to answer PP's question since PP already rebutted and showed how idiotic your question is?

I know I am not whining. I am just making a statement of fact. Your Asian child is constantly prepped starting from first grade up until the entrance exam to TJ. My white child was never prepped and is in AAP. He is one of the top students and is naturally motivated. I do not have to force him to do anything academic. He wants to understand a variety of concepts and will happily pursue his academic interests. I see this as in direct contrast to what I have witnessed in Asian families, where the child is forced to study for hours at a time.

I will happily address your question. I am not ashamed and PP did not offer any rebuttal. I could care less whether my child got into an Ivy school. However, I would not be surprised if he was accepted to one based on his academic rigor. But he will get there on his own merits. If he chooses a different college, then I will be just as proud.

Um. Yeah. But that does change the pressure cooker parenting so common amongst Asians.
