Wow..just wow: ULCA blatant anti discrimination/semitism.

Looking at what is going on I don't think the pro-Israel student groups were any less vicious than the divestment movement.

Thing is, the 4 student council members who voted against her were pro divestment movement. They were of a demographic that can be stereotyped as anti Israel. Why weren't they questioned on their bias? They specifically questioned her that based on her Jewishness, she would be "pro Israel". The student council should accommodate a diversity of student opinion. It is anti antisemitism. I just don't see the same outrage from the school that would accompany any other ethnic minority questioned in the same way.

LOS ANGELES, California — An emotionally-charged and highly divisive vote took place at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) on Sunday as pro-Israel students attempted to thwart two different divestment resolutions at the UC Student Association (USCA). Both divestment resolutions subsequently passed, including one which called for divestment from most of the world, including the United States.

Or

Pitched battle

This divestment victory comes after last year’s defeat of a similar resolution at UC Santa Cruz, and after years of pitched battles between Palestine solidarity activists and anti-Palestinian political groups on and off campus.

UC Santa Cruz employs notorious racist and inciter Tammi Rossman-Benjamin of the Zionist watchdog group the Amcha Initiative, which smears and legally harasses students and faculty who speak out against Israel’s policies, often equating Palestine solidarity activism with anti-Semitism. In 2013, Rossman-Benjamin was caught on video making racist and Islamophobic remarks about students involved in Palestine solidarity activism.

So it's a lot about Israel and a lot of outside groups are involved pushing each side...like it or not Israel is now a partisan issue.

Being anti Israel is not antisemitic. There is a difference. By conflating the two you demean the victims of antisemitic acts.

And this is fucking student government at a California university. Who the fuck cares what her views on Israel are? Not only are these students anti-Semites and anti-American, they apparently suffer from delusions of grandeur. Are they anticipating the council will be somehow involved in peace negotiations in the Middle East? GMAFB. I don't care how "contentious" the divestiture issue is/was.

OUTRAGEOUS.

I didn't hear anything about "Israel," although I readily admit I could have missed something. It was centered on her being Jewish which takes it into a whole new area of hate. One imagines that this grew out of the BDS debate, though. Thank goodness for the adult in the room.

It's about Israel. Just read the first article. They include Israel as a source of the problem. There is a disinvest in Israel movement that is making its way through the college ranks- based on the model used with South Africa. The opposition by the pro Israel groups has been vicious. Name calling etc typical right wing response. Not agruing the merits, just attacking the people proposing the program. For many of the college kids it is the first time they have faced this. It is an eye opener and they remember who said what and what organization they represented. It has really been divisive.

It was, plain and simple, questioning someone's impartiality based on her Jewish faith. We have no way of knowing what was going on in soneone's mind. The process played out and the pushback prevailed against what was a very ugly episode. Apparently, the student government voted to put the video back up. So score one for transparency and making this a teachable moment.

Seems like one of the council members still have not learnt her lesson:
http://dailybruin.com/2015/03/10/usac-unanimously-passes-resolution-condemning-anti-semitism/

"Before voting on the resolution, Haq said she thinks the comments at the Feb. 10 meeting were misconstrued by the press and on social media, but she condemns anti-Semitism"

Wish UCLA will take more strong action by dismissing those 4 council members. Shame on UCLA. Contrast that to the strong reaction of the Oklahoma fratenity.

If all this council member thinks is that her words were misconstrued by the press, that means next time anti-semitism will be just more cloaked and insidious at UCLA. Shame on the chancellor for not immediately stamping this out.

The antisemitism visited upon Jewish students is a real eye opener too.
