The reference to "our generation" is perhaps relevant here. If you're of a certain age, and you've watched MS over the decades tackle demanding roles at different stages of her life, you may view her with more respect than someone younger who finds some of her more recent roles and/or current persona less than captivating. She can't help but be a Grand Dame now. |
| I can't think of another actress in the last fifty plus years who has been as consistent as MS in delivering such absolutely stunninng performances and displaying the versatility that she does. |
| You guys are naming some good ones. I'm going to have to watch a Meryl movie marathon one day soon. |
| I'm 35, so too young to have seen lThe Deerhunter or Sophie's Choice or lots of her roles as she made them. I still recognize that she is one of the greatest actresses of all time. She's great in everything. If you don't get the hype, you don't get acting. |
Well the youngins should have more respect for their elders.
|
Nah, I'm in my early 30s - haven't seen many of her movies made prior to the late 80s - and I know how good she is. |
when I was young, actresses like Betty Davis and Katherine Hepburn were toward the end of their careers. Yet I could acknowledge what great actresses they were. I never thought dumb things like their the last of the older generation’s great actresses. They’re either great or not. Meryl Streep is among the most versatile and accomplished screen actresses ever. |
oops. They're |

[quote=Anonymous]Meryl Streep is the most talented female actress of her generation and one of the most talented of all time. She is versatile and excels in just about any role.
+1,000,000 She is a true A lister-with loads of talent, class and classic beauty to boot! People who cannot see that are just caught up in the cheap, krass garbadge that is put out there nowadays-think Kardashian reality shows. |
| Well, she's almost universally admired by anyone who knows anything about acting, the stage and filmmaking, so I'm sure Meryl won't lose sleep knowing you don't like her, OP. |

I love this performance she did with Yo-Yo Ma.
Meryl Streep reads 'Luchai' by Wang Wei and 'A Letter to Agnes DeMille' by Martha Graham featuring Yo-Yo Ma performing George Crumb's 'Sonata for Solo Cello'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7IXfiop6_0 |
