Yeah, Sophie's Choice had me weeping for days. All of her work is great. August, Osage County was not a good movie but she was awesome in it. She really made me hate her.

I think she's admired in the industry not just for her talent, but b/c she's a consummate professional and she seems to be a nice person.

Meryl Streep is the most talented female actress of her generation and one of the most talented of all time. She is versatile and excels in just about any role.

I don't want to start trouble on here. We are all entitled to our own opinions. But it seems to me that if you "don't get it" or cannot recognize Meryl Streep's talent you might be ... Ornery? Contrary? I don't know. Not saying that you *have* to love her but come on!
And more importantly is Jennifer Aniston pregnant or not??

She's a good character actress, e.g., Julia Child role, but I don't get the hoopla either.

She's widely considered to be one of the hardest working people on any set, even now when she could clearly just phone it in if she wanted to. She is famous for knowing entire scripts, backwards and forwards, every actor's line. I think she is also admired for managing to stay relevant while maintaining a marriage, a family, and some modicum of privacy.

I just saw it again recently, and I wondered if it would be dated. It wasn't - it still took my breath away. She is amazing.

OP, only once in a very long while does someone come along who is so uniquely talented in their field. Streep is one of them.

Kramer vs. Kramer always makes me a weeping mess. So good! I agree, I would watch A movie about a cabbage if Streep was playing the lead.
