Montgomery County shut out of top 10 elementary schools

I can't believe my kid doesn't go to a TOP TEN ES! This must mean my local ES sux eggs.

She's doomed to failure! What have I done? Is it too late to get her into a TOP THREE PS? Or is it TOP FIVE? I'm so confused! Will she ever make it into the TOP ONE PRCENT of all U.S earners?

Who are some of the TOP children's psychologists I can call to help her deal with this? What about TOP children's tutoring -- are Sylva and Tabtor any good or is Kumon really the TOPS?

Effin' 'ell, I've already missed the deadline to get her into a TOP summer camp like Holton Arms!! She might have to spend the summer at the Y (shudder).

ha ha! I agree - I'm always extremely skeptical of "Top X" rankings and think it is naïve to base any decisions on them. I clicked on the link though (which is what the makers of the ranking really wanted) and checked the scores on our ES - Wyngate. A for academics, A+ for teachers and B+ for diversity. Sounds good to me and makes me not care about the ranking at all (81st in the DMV).

This score probably didn't help Wyngate.

At 1% FARMS, Niche ranked Wyngate Elementary School 391st in MD for Most Diverse Public Elementary Schools!

NICHE is a a garbage website. We've encountered this before when someone referenced it with top ratings for south Arlington

Any list that does not have Beverly Farms as top 3 is worthless. Have they not seen our new facility?

Not only the facility, the staff are wonderful. Don't you see these cold days in the morning the principal is always there to assist drop-off ?

I bet that drop-off is more wonderful at Somerset ES.

Increase in illegals = decrease in education

Everyone wants to be politically correct but in the long run, it is ruining a once great county.

MCPS educates ill eagles? I thought that was a task for raptor rehabilitators.

The fact that we have to add diversity as a reason to rank a school is ridiculous. I guess TJ would get a zero. It is almost all Asian because they don't shuffle kids around. The best of the best only. Not the same for our magnets where diversity is a reason for admit. Sorry smart little Asian girl, we need to add the mediocre Hispanic girl to show how diverse our IB program is.

1. MCPS does not, and is not allowed to, consider race/ethnicity in its decisions about magnet admissions.
2. It's interesting that you think that the options are "smart little Asian girl" and "mediocre Hispanic girl". And by "interesting", I mean racist.

Yes because all the hispanics are at the top of their classes in their schools. It is not racist. It is fact. The schools provide test scores and dropouts right on their "at a glance" sheets.

And if they don't consider it then why do have to put it on the form. Hmmmmm....

It is a fact that all Asians are smart and all Hispanics are mediocre?

Also, I don't know about the other magnet programs, but the HGC application does not ask for race/ethnicity.

Also, are you saying that MCPS is breaking the law and considering race/ethnicity in admission to magnet programs?

Lots of white schools with few non-English speaking students.
