Montgomery County shut out of top 10 elementary schools

But then when you want to go to the best high school, according to the same website, you have to move back to MoCo.

High school ranking is consistent with US News

https://k12.niche.com/rankings/public-high-schools/best-overall/s/maryland/ Most top are in MoCo.

So in a few years --- it may change because ES kids move up to high schools

Thank you MCPS 2.0!

I can't believe my kid doesn't go to a TOP TEN ES! This must mean my local ES sux eggs.

She's doomed to failure! What have I done? Is it too late to get her into a TOP THREE PS? Or is it TOP FIVE? I'm so confused! Will she ever make it into the TOP ONE PRCENT of all U.S earners?

Who are some of the TOP children's psychologists I can call to help her deal with this? What about TOP children's tutoring -- are Sylva and Tabtor any good or is Kumon really the TOPS?

Effin' 'ell, I've already missed the deadline to get her into a TOP summer camp like Holton Arms!! She might have to spend the summer at the Y (shudder).

ha ha! I agree - I'm always extremely skeptical of "Top X" rankings and think it is naïve to base any decisions on them. I clicked on the link though (which is what the makers of the ranking really wanted) and checked the scores on our ES - Wyngate. A for academics, A+ for teachers and B+ for diversity. Sounds good to me and makes me not care about the ranking at all (81st in the DMV).

haha. Clearly the study is flawed

In any case, I would like to thank the down county mommy warriors for paying such high property taxes on their million dollar 1950s Cape Cods to subsidize the education of our little FARMers.

Sorry to interrupt your pages and pages of gloating over all those awesome family friendly neighborhoods in Olney. Don't forget to reload your EZ pass for the $10 ICC commute. Bethesda and Chevy Chasers, please send my regards to the new skyscraper occupants who will soon be stuffing your favorite W school to 200% capacity and vying for position in the free lunch line.

There is no need to display our upcounty provincialism by referring to a 12-story building as a skyscraper.

It's not only 2.0. They had this ridiculous school polling system, which cost MCPS hundreds of thousands of dollars. This list a reflection of that poll.

Niche should be forced to reclassify their rankings to match US News and World Report, which publishes only pure, objective, unbiased, and untainted information.

Besides, I prefer to spend those thousands of down county tax dollars on headhunting our next school superintendent ($33,000 contract PLUS expenses) to take the burden off the MCPS educational board. Its true that blowing $100,000 on lobster dinners and cocktails in an Ocean City weekend retreat helps to take the edge off, but having to independently select the next superintendent is just asking too much.

Our Bethesda MCPS school is wonderful, and never receives top ranking because they cater to children with special needs and have a very diverse ESOL population. This drives down the test scores, but the education level in the classroom is extremely high.

As are the special needs services. Awesome school!

Bethesda ES SPED 11.6%, ESOL 12.2%, FARMS 6.3%
Ronald McNair ES SPED 6.0%, ESOL 19.4%, FARMS 24.4%

(Which is not to say that Bethesda ES is not wonderful!)
