No, but i'd rather they not be stabbed while in school or around that "element" if I can avoid it. Is your kid a gang member?

I'd say that the risk of your child being stabbed while in any school in Montgomery County is as close to zero as it can get without actually being zero.

A girl got stabbed in the face with a pair of scissors at Walter Johnson-does that count?

No nothing at a W school counts.

Seneca Valley has had so many deaths, accidents and issues.

I would also avoid Richard Montgomery. The IB program in the school makes the school look not so bad on paper. But yet Twinbrook and Lincoln Park go there and they are very much full of drugs and gangs. There was an 18yr old sophomore (yes, sophomore) having sex with a 14yr old freshman in the hall for over 20 minutes. Not a place you want to send your kid.

This gets mentioned a lot, like W schools don't have 18 yr olds having sex with younger classmates.

If this is the extent of it, I'd rather have my kids exposed to sex in the hallways (which I don't think the kids saw) than the myriad of designer drugs readily available at the W schools.

Oh yes. The mean streets of MoCo.

LOL.. I agree PP, but it's just what people here are used to. I went to a HS with gangs out west. The gang issues here are nothing like those out west where I grew up. Most kids who are not involved in gangs are not affected by the gang activity since they mostly keep to themselves, more so if your kid is in mostly AP/Honors classes like I was.

The W schools do not have 18yr old sophomores and 20/21yr old seniors going to school with 14yr olds.

Learn how to quote PP. So the issue is that there is a 20 yr old senior at a school with 14 yr olds rather than the sex? Well, yea, if the kid flunked or was put back a few grades when entering school, then this would happen. I have a friend who has a SN child severe enough where the kid is behind 2 to 3 yrs and will be 20/21 as a senior in HS. Friend is white btw, upper/middle class. So, it can happen even in all white schools. Let me guess, your issue is that this 18 yr old sophomore at RM had brown skin.

If they don't, then they're probably breaking state and federal laws, starting with the IDEA.

Careful...demographics don't give the full picture. If you just don't want your kids hanging around "the brown ones" then sure, this is a good way to make a decision, but you are dumb for basing your kids education on this.

Keep in mind, Montgomery County is only 49% white http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/02/09/AR2011020904310.html
so unless you are at the "W" schools ("W" for a reason) the highest percentage of white students will probably be around 35% or less (unless you are in Poolesville).

I would stay away from Seneca Valley, Watkins Mill, and possibly Northwest upcounty. Gaithersburg is okay, but not ideal.
Downcounty I would stay away from Wheaton, Einstein, Springbrook and Northwood.

RM, Sherwood, Rockville, Quince Orchard are good. Stay away from Blake since it is part of the consortium and you aren't guaranteed a sport. People poop all over Rockville but it is actually a good school - small, great programs, great middle class community.

There is no single school in MoCo with serious gang activity...in fact the DC area with the exception of parts of PG and Fairfax with MS-13 is not big gangland. Lots of fake me out gangs in MoCo for sure, but nothing too bad.

W Schools - rampant drug, alcohol, and script abuse. And bad sex scene.
Downcounty - Wanna be gangsters. And alcohol.
NEC - Some drugs and alcohol.
Far burbs - Massive alcohol and drunk driving issues.

Pick your poison and actually parent your kids.

One SN child is a little different than many non-English speaking kids who use school as a hangout and disrupt classes. Coming back year after year failing classes over and over again. Shameful our taxes pay for this.

Good lord PP. Learn how to quote! If you have trouble writing under the quote, then let me help you out. When you respond, highlight the text you are responding to, and then click on the little "Quote" button above.

How do you know that a school has only one SN kid who is being held back? How do you know that none of the W schools have such kids? It's not like a parent is going to brag about it. Do you know all the kids that go to these schools year after year? How do you know this one Brown colored kid failed a class rather than entered the school late because he was a refugee or something. Or maybe this person has a LD/SN, too? Face it, you are just a bigot.
