Gang infested High Schools in MoCo?

[quote=Anonymous]Read the demographics for Rockville and Gaithersburg, OP.

basically if it is not mostly white, and low FARMS- it is bad.

BCC is a bit worrisome-more so than WJ. I assume all those wealthy Chevy Chase kids go to private?

No good options in moco any more.

To 20:57 - after reading the op's post, don't ya think so?

There are some townhouses that are 2000 sq ft and 4 bedrooms in WJ cluster. ALso, if you'd be able to budget up to 800k there are SFHs in Old Farm and Montrose Woods that might fit the bill (also in WJ).

You could start here to find out how many times the HS has called the police. It doesn't tell you if there is gang activity, but it gives you some idea of the types of problems the school has:

I would look into QO or RM. Someone posted a link to a graph that showed each HS's FARMS/racial breakdown, and these two HSs were right in the middle. Good mix of everyone. On the far right, you had the W schools, mostly white/low FARMs... hm.. just a coincidence it's on the far right? OK, I'm reading too much into it.

FWIW, we chose not to buy in one of the W clusters. While these schools are rated well, they have their own issues, mostly surrounding issues that come from too much wealth. I didn't want my kids around that kind of atmosphere, either.

There is gang activity in all the schools. Some obviously have very little, like the W schools, although I live in the Wootton district and I know of some there. There are "tags" on some of the concrete walkways where I walk.

I've got friends with kids in almost all the "scary" schools, and nobody has ever had trouble with gangs. I think you really need to insert yourself into that circle to have trouble.

It's only a personal opinion, but I really like Quince Orchard High. I think you can find relatively affordable housing in that cluster. It's not gang, crime, or drug free. But it's very diverse, both ethnically as well as economically.

That reputation was back in the 90s and early 00s. B-CC is now a very desirable and safe school. Small F&RL population. The majority of students are wealthy kids who live in single family homes.

OP just for just FYI is spelled Wotton not Wotten.

Poor schools have the drug dealers and rich schools have the drug users.

No escaping the culture of drugs, sex, violence and cheating in any school - public or private, rich or poor.
