When parents hold money over your head

Offer again. If they say no, the next time they try to bring it up, say, "I offered to pay you back. Did you say no because you wanted leverage? That's not going to work."

I would be tempted to make a joke out of it: "Oh, sorry, I ate the last one. And after you lent me money for a condo, too!"

"Oh, sorry, were you sitting here? I didn't know. And hey, thanks for lending me money for the condo!"[/quote]

That's pretty rude. I wouldn't talk to my in-laws like that, no matter how annoying.

I'd give them their seat back. I'd just treat the money bitterness as a joke, because this is ridiculous. And I would only do it to my parents. I was never anything but polite to my ILs.

it is even better when they selectively choose when to weaponzie past gifts and parenting expenses against you ... like throw them in your face anytime they get upset or want to bring you down ... when they are really upset they will commerate such in a written email so you can be constantly reminded what a POS you are. Like we bought you nintendo when u were 10 a computer when u werer 15, a washer when u got your first duplex ... Then when you refuse their NXT gift they have even better reasons to attack and make you feel like you are worthless and ungrateful POS. Love thy parents ...
