Octuplet mom has 6 other kids!

I don't want to sound malicious or hateful - to each his/her own - but I work in healthcare policy and while access to the system is a problem for many who are uninsured, one problem with our system is overuse. It took 48 people to deliver these babies. It cost several thousands $$ to keep premature babies alive and well. This is why our health insurance premiums go up every year! If she is a surrogate, fine, but 8 is too many for a human to have and I think she and her dr. were irresponsible.

I believe there should be coverage and help for people with infertility, but there are many families in this country who have no health insurance who struggle with basic medical care and these situations are not helping matters.

Each one of them a victim of their mothers sense of fashion
family lives on tin food
each one has a fake smile
girls dream of girly motherhood type careers, boys manly professions

you gotto be crazy to admire people like that

I try to be open-minded, but yeah....weird! Do they have any neighbors or friends?

You know, zumbamamma, I'm always impressed with your classy responses. Your responses are so pragmatic and thoughful. What a comparison to many of the other people on here. I've read you lamenting about the financial struggles you have living in your family's income and it really illustrates how money certainly does not buy class, because you are a class act.

If kindness and and humanity were a currency, you would be the wealthiest one of us all!

So, this lady has 14 kids - wow, it looks it gives the Duggar family a run for their money. Maybe TLC should do a reality show on this family instead.

Do doctors really do that? When I struggled to conceive baby #2, I was at the crossroads of going the fertility treatment route or adoption. I was hesitant to go the fertility treatment route b/c I didn't want to end up with a litter of babies. My OB (in Montgomery County) told me that responsible docs wouldn't let that happen and that local clinics typically don't have patients carrying more than twins or triplets. I thought that was reassuring.

In nature, people are not meant to carry & deliver a litter of children at once. If society could have more people like you (thoughtful of your actions), we wouldn't suffer overpopulation that result in increased rates of war.

aww...so sweet! Well, we are not living in poverty and can afford to live in a nice neighborhood with great schools, even if it means being extremely frugal. I actually used to be a lot more materialistic before I had kids, but once I had them I slowly turned into my mom/grandmother, seeing sensibility in their, excuse the expression, "third world" survival techniques.

maybe if this mom has any of her common sense still intact (which is questionable at this momemt) she won't pimp her kids out like the Duggars and John & Kate.

No no, I'm not implying you are living in poverty, and I certainly know that you are the kind of person who is grateful for every day. I think even if you did live in poverty, your kind and positive spirit would be just the same.

The contrast of your posts to a lot of others is just so glaring!

...but if that is what it takes to pay the bills...desperate times call for desperate measures (plus, I'm sure the producers will giver her a copy of the tapings so she gets a free video-graphy from it too).

There is a difference from doing a special on TLC and doing a reality TV show season after season after season.

They are pimps. John & Kate go around to churches in middle america passing around a bucket asking for mone and donations for their family. They are DISGUSTING. BTW they call these donations "love offerings". That sure is love since they just moved into a million dollar house. How can she write a book, have a hit TV show, and then go around and pass the collection plate around at a church asking for money for her "poor "family.

Before the octomom's identity was revealed I said she was selfish for putting her wish to have bio children before their health. I was engulfed in napalm from other posters. It fascinates me that everyone now agrees that she is a heartless monster not for jeopardizing their health but because she can't possibly provide for them financially. Interesting...

There is a bit of a difference. If she were older and childless and finally blessed with a pregnancy, how could one fault her for not doing a reduction. How do you pick which child should live and which one should die? It's not fair.

I think now the issue is that she already has six children and lives with her parents. Her father said that they have a big house somewhere and that no one will ever be able to find them after the babies are out of the hospital. There is just something strange about all of this.
