Very hard to get into. I thought it was ok after about midway, but it was so hard to get into it that I still haven't brought myself to read the second or third, which someone gave me.

I had to start with the second book. It is the author's first novel and the first book of the series is kind of convoluted and draggy.

Caleb's Crossing (was that the name?) Nantucket, Native American, Harvard? I really love books of this genre but this one. What a disappointment.

I picked it up based on so many favorable comments on DCUM and was so disappointed in the end. There were small parts that were compelling It is supposed to be a memoir, but I couldn't shake the feeling that the whole thing was a self-absorbed lie.

I thought this book was excellent and so much of it reminded me of my childhood. Thank your lucky stars that you cannot imagine it being a memoir.

+1

I like it, too, and had no problem believing it.

I loved the movie. Deserved its win for Best Picture and Best Actor.

Hated the movie. Thought it was so undeserving of the accolades and am not just saying that to be disagreeable. Still cannot believe it beat out The Shawshank Redemption!! (or even Pulp Fiction for that matter).

We might need another thread for that. It beat Pulp Fiction: ridiculous.

Forrest Gump felt like conservative propaganda to me.

Just believe in God and country and mosey your little ol' way through life, and everything will work out!!

I thought it was one of the best movies ever and Hanks deserved best actor - what did you not like about it?

Loved The Virgin Suicides and Middlesex. The Marriage Plot filled me with rage.

I'm not that PP, but I think Forrest Gump is just plain silly and cheesy. Hokey.
