yep, didn't lie the ending at all |
|
I loved Gone Girl and really loved Bernadette. I laughed so hard that I can't imagine having anything in common with someone who didn't think it was at all funny. It is funny. Thank goodness most people realized it and it got the attention it deserved. It's hard to find good funny books.
I am usually in the first wave of reading hot books, which does help with not being let down. I think it is much harder for a book to meet your expectations if all your friends have raved about it already. |

The Goldfinch
The Woods |
| This is old but I didn't get why the Girl with Dragon Tatoo was so popular. Didn't enjoy it at all, and the ending was dissapointng. |
| The Sundial by Shirley Jackson. The end made absolutely no sense |
Agree about The Little Friend, but I was actually so disappointed in The Goldfinch that I couldn't finish it. |
| In the Woods |

Thanks for the warning about Bernadette.
Also, agree about Gone Girl, but maybe because most of us are parents here and can't imagine a psycho like Amy raising a kid. |

The Goldfinch
Where'd You Go Bernadette I think that both of these were so overhyped that I went into them thinking they would blow my mind...and they just couldn't live up to my expectations. They were both solid 3/5 stars for me--good books but not life changing or anything I'd ever care to read again. |
| The Goldfinch. Forced myself to finish it. Skimmed big parts of it. |
| The Divergent Series. The first one was pretty good, the second sorta ok and the third was pretty lame. The 3rd book of the Hunger Games was also pretty lame actually. |
The movie was worse. Really having a party with the gov and the "help" bursts in with their problems? just imagine if you pulled THAT one at the office. |
Very hard to get into. I thought it was ok after about midway, but it was so hard to get into it that I still haven't brought myself to read the second or third, which someone gave me. |
hated it too-didn't get the hype. I also could not get through Goldfinch. |
| Little Bee. Whoever wrote the back summary was genius though. They actually made it sound interesting. |
