Books that let you down

Jonathan Tropper, This Is Where I Leave You

I had high hopes for this after all the raves here, but it seemed like a TV show.

I LOVED This Is Where I Leave You!! Still pissed about Donna Tartt's The Little Friend ( it is NOT a mystery!!!!!), although the perfection that is The Goldfinch almost makes up for it.

Same thing for me with "Gone Girl." I finally read it after it was praised here, but it's a trashy POS.

Don't hate me but I could never ever read Tolkien - that's why I was so happy when the movies came out!

Where'd You Go, Bernadette. I read the whole thing hoping it'd get better, but I don't get what all the fuss is about.

"We Are Water" by Wally Lamb. I love (and have re-read) several of his other books, but I really disliked that one. Too much build-up for the plot payoff and really horrible scenes of child molestation that I wasn't expecting.

+3 on Gone Girl.

The Casual Vacancy by Rowling. Difficult subject, good moments, ending somehow unsatisfying.

Anything by Dave Eggars.

The Help.
