Weed smoking in BASIS bathrooms

Honestly, Basis is a small enough community with parents that are hyper-aware of any hiccup that goes on there, for better or worst-if something like this were to happen, it would be on the boosters list before day's end. Also, with the narrow hallways, cameras and strict rules on campus, I would imagine that anything of this sort done by upper schoolers would happen off campus-the upper school students have permission to leave campus during the school day. All in all, it is pretty obvious this is a troll or parent of a very imaginitive kid.

Not necessarily. I have heard about kids getting in trouble in DCPS schools for pot related incidents from my kids (so could have been rumors) and also from other parents (verified incidents) but never had a note come home.

I even know of a kid who had to leave DCPS because of drug related issues-definitely true-but never did the school send notes home.

BASIS has a pot dealer?

No, BASIS kids just smoke it, they actually get their weed from the Stuart Hobson crew. But the BASIS kids do build the most amazing bongs you have ever seen - that's their strength.

Sounds like a fresh new fundraising opportunity

Basis Bongs! Engineered to soar!

Clearly your kids don't go to Basis, trolls. Bongs are downright archaic. They have a vaporizer-building contest every year, in lieu of a bridge-building contest. It was obviously the remedial kids that got caught smoking, because I've heard they've gotten so good you can only detect 1/20 of the smoke a joint would produce.

Pp who replied with info re pot smoking in DCPS-that is not Basis-trust me, the boosters list is hyper aware, so if something like this happened, they'd know, and in turn, let the parent listserv know, for better or worse-I am not saying Basis 8th and 9th graders do more or less than DCPS middle schoolers, but when there is even a hint or rumor of something a parent could possibly be concerned about at Basis, it is on the parent listserv within 24 hours every time.

I'd say its on the listserve around about dinner time of the day of the incident and it's dwelled upon on average for 3 or more sickening days! So if we parents don't know, it didn't happen!!!!

Yes, because too many of the parents on the Boosters listserv believe that everything that occurs in middle school is, in fact, content worthy of a tv after school special, and then forget that "reply to all" is optional! Regardless, it means that parents are never ignorant about happenings, suspected or verified, occurring within Basis DC!

Another BASIS parent here. My 6th grader did come home last week and tell me about the pot smoking incident and then the arrest of the student. I honestly have no idea if it is true. The crew that hangs out at my house after school is often full of sensational stories. I also heard that some 6th grade girls were suspended for a few days last week for making a fake Instagram account for their history teacher.

Basis parent here: all I know is that the school's debate team went to the nationals and so did its Science Bowl team.

Spread whatever nonsense you want. Basis is still an excellent MS with a waiting list.

Trollers, troll on.

Blah, blah, blah...

I was caught drinking in the bathroom in high school. In school suspension for two days. Shockingly, the entire school community was not alerted. This incident did not prevent me from getting onto law review or becoming a kindergarten room parent either, which is odd because it was illegal, so I should have been hung in the courtyard at the next pep rally.

We had one through when I graduated in 1994. But you had to circle the block to smoke weed.

Can we get back to where OP claimed that smoking pot was not illegal? I love that bit. Too bad she is completely wrong.

Well the school is not aware of this incident. Was this suppose to be a joke?

I also loved the implication that because something isn't illegal you can't get in trouble for it at school.
