I heard from my child that 2 students were smoking weed in the boys bathroom yesterday.
Someone told administration and the police came. And since it's not illegal to smoke in DC anymore, the boys were suspended for the rest of Friday and Monday. How come there was nothing mentioned about this to parents? |
| Why don't you ask the school. |

"Smokin' In The Boys Room"

While the Council has passed a bill decriminalizing marijuana and the Mayor has signed the bill, the law is pending Congressional review and not yet in effect. Even then, marijuana use will be illegal and punishable by a $25 fine. So, at least half of your post is wrong. I have doubts about the other half.
|
Your child was suspended for drug use on campus and you learned about it from the child themselves? That's very wrong and you should bring it to the head of school right away. Or are you arguing that you should have been notified about the confidential disciplinary action taken against somebody else's child? |
How is it half wrong? You want proof? Ask any 8th or 9th grader who goes to Basis. |
I'm pretty sure he was talking about the 1/2 of your statement that says:
I'm not sure that the fact that an 8th or 9th grader believes something about the law means that it's legally true. |
| no smoke detectors? |
Maybe that's how they go caught. |
|
Wouldn't the law apply only to ADULTS?
Or is it true that now any middle schooler can light up freely without worrying about being caught by annoying parents, teachers or even police officers? Just blow smoke in their faces, kids, it'll help all those uptight grown ups calm the fuck down. Anyway, pot is everywhere. Don't think that your little math homework loving, robotics geniuses at Basis are immune. They are not. |
I don't think the OP was talking about their own child. OP was talking about what was relayed by her child about two OTHER students. I don't think any of us here have insight into what if anything was done on the criminal side, I don't think the school would be talking to anyone other than the families directly involved given confidentiality laws. |
I don't know where you get this "robotic" crap from... clearly you don't know the first thing about Basis students. But that aside, some of the most brilliant minds of the last 50 years smoked pot. |
| Yes, and they will tell you that, and then they forgot what they were going to say and then got hungry. What were you saying? |
Oh, OK, so now that the brilliant minds at Basis are smoking pot, it's fine, just part of their education? They are just being brilliant kids? Wow, parents can justify anything if they really want to. |
| The 4th floor bathroom was closed because of graffiti-is that the one where the drug use allegedly happened? |
