The smoke detectors in bathrooms on airplanes are highly sensitive and can detect cigarette smoke. That is their sole purpose. People smoke in their homes all the time. Do you think smoke detectors are going off in the homes of smokers all the time? No. |

We used to have a smoking area for students at our highschool in the 70s through late 80s.
That woild take csre of smoking in the bathrooms

I don't smoke, but the smoke detector by my kitchen goes off if I overcook bacon. Household smoke detectors are installed in large spaces where a modest amount of cigarette smoke would dissipate before reaching levels that would trigger the smoke detector. I think if you installed a household smoke detector in your bathroom, closed the door, and started smoking, you would eventually set it off. |

| Going back to the original post, I can't imagine why the school would notify parents about a disciplinary incident involving two students. It's not as if it might open a door to new policies or leave anyone in particular danger. In addition, the families involved deserve their privacy. I don't think BASIS is doing anything wrong here; in fact, I think they are doing the right thing (says someone with no involvement in BASIS whatsoever.) |

| I am the person whosaid a few days ago that my daughter told me the 4th floor bathroom was closed because of graffiti-the person who mentioned the weed incident never said anything but that it was the 8th and 9th graders, and the 4th floor is for the 6th graders. |

A couple years ago a student had brought a toy gun and another studemt a Swiss Army Knife in my child's elementary school. Both students was suspended for 2 days and admin sent us a note home explaining each incident, without giving any names. By the same token, BASIS should have had some kind of communication with the parents. |

Honestly, Basis is a small enough community with parents that are hyper-aware of any hiccup that goes on there, for better or worst-if something like this were to happen, it would be on the boosters list before day's end. Also, with the narrow hallways, cameras and strict rules on campus, I would imagine that anything of this sort done by upper schoolers would happen off campus-the upper school students have permission to leave campus during the school day. All in all, it is pretty obvious this is a troll or parent of a very imaginitive kid. |
