Dealing with two neighbors and their barking dogs

Anonymous
We had the same problem. We called animal control and the cops every single time the dogs barked for longer than about thirty minutes. We had several neighbors who also called. It took a couple of months, but eventually the idiot neighbor got tired if dealing with threats from animal control and visits from the cops. The dogs are gone!

This is that pp. Also, if you put it in terms of "no proper shelter, long periods of time outside" that alone can get them in trouble and will def get Animal Control to investigate and you won't come off as a complainer. At a minimum they will get checked out for rabies vax and license and having none can result in big fines, even for a first offense.

They will know it is you and you will easily be liable for any damages. Bad move, and extremely stupid.

Plus it takes a lot of chocolate, especially if it's milk chocolate and the dogs are big.

(No, I don't really think that this is why the OP shouldn't do it.)

Can you make a video recording of the barking, and also include a shot of a clock to show the time(s) the noise is happening? Then you can share it with your neighbors, and let them know that the status quo is unacceptable and that they will force your hand and compel you to take the next steps.

Many people with dogs just don't get how annoying the sounds of their dog barking is. I have a friend whose neighbor complains about their dogs barking, and she's very indignant that the woman complains. I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying, "Your dogs are loud. Most people don't like to hear the sound of frequent barking. You may love Cuddles and Fido but your neighbor doesn't."

I agree with the video. I do not agree with the mobbing. The mobbing will not work in your favor, OP. There is nothing that compels them to "get rid of" the dogs. There may be certain parameters, but that's it. In fact, they could easily use your "parameters" against you. I have seen it.

No, OP they are not nice. Nice people are considerate of their neighbors.

There's doggie daycare as well. Maybe offer to throw in a few bucks; it would be worth it in my opinion. I had this problem when I lived in Arlington so I feel your pain! I ended up moving, as it was a rental.

OP here. When my DH went to the neighbors behind our house last night at 10 pm he asked her about training, and she blew him off saying nope, that's just the way this breed is. WTF?????

Out of curiosity, do you know what the breed is?

I have to guess Sheltie. A neighbor of mine used to have one and it barked incessantly when it was outside.

Don't they have bark collars that give a little jolt when they bark and thus discourage barking?

The thing is, it will end in a typical pissing contest, right? You can choose to let it go, or move - but you may end up with worse. When you are convinced there is no worse, is when it is time to go. You are not going to convince them you are right, nor is there much they can do about it - especially if they have already made up their mind that they have no reason to work with you.

you've already gone to them and explained, time to call police.

Some types of breeds are vocal, OP. Do you know anything about dogs? I'm not saying they could not train if they wanted to, but some people like having dogs that are similar to guard dogs. In other words, they want to know if someone/something is near the house. It is not really your place to say they can't have that.

The OP is describing dogs that bark incessantly. That is not the behavior of trained guard dogs.

Ridiculous. I have two large German Shepherds - what you called "guard dogs". They don't disturb my neighbors because the minute I hear them bark I either bring them inside or tell them to "hush". They are well trained and know they cannot bark whenever they chose to do so.

There is a huge difference between dogs whose idiot owners allow them to become a neighborhood nuisance and dogs who bark to alert to a perceived threat.

She can choose to call the cops.
