Well, Grantham did indicate that he's no stranger to homosexuality...

Wasn't Grantham referring to his prep school days?

Yes. Joke.

Made me chuckle and feel more fond of Grantham.

I like to watch Moseley bloom under Baxter's attention.

The subplot with the letter was stupid but shut up Mary about Bates.

If I were Tony Gillingham or Charles Blake, I would tell Mary (the total c**k teaser) to stuff it

Tom doesn't need a Miss Bunting type, I can't stand the shitty grin that she wears. I'm sick of seeing Tom subjected to women who try to guilt trip his lifestyle change. He's lonely for a good woman.

I'm also really loving Moseley and Baxter, I hope she's not using him for protection from Thomas. I continue to think she's a family member, older sister or mom.

Yes, totally stupid subplot. It's so in Mrs. Hughes' character to quietly discard that London ticket she found in his pocket. Clearly, she's now leery of Bates. Apparently, by dragging Mary in, next season, there will be more issues regarding Bates and she will regret burning the proof.

I must say that Mary is enjoying having so many men to choose from, this is a new experience for her being in such high demand. I want to see more screen time of that dimpled Evelyn Napier.

Re Lady Edith -- yes, there's more heartbreak ahead for her -- but also more adventure, I'd guess.

Did anyone else pick up on Edith's comment that she had Michael Gregson's power of attorney? In the States the attorney in fact doesn't sign t he POA. Maybe it is different in England and that was the document she signed or a document related to the POA. If the "brown shirts" killed Gregson, Edith might have a stake in his newspaper. This could be her ultimate triumph. I vote for Bates as investigative reporter, Mrs Patmore as Agony Aunt, Tom for political reporting and Isis for animal column

I love how much dumb Lord Grantham loves that dumb dog

I want Tom to find a woman who will put that arse Barrow in his place. Can you imagine what "my Sybil" (I love when he calls her that) would have done?

Yes I didn't understand the POA at all... If he's dead POA wouldn't matter? And his newspaper stake would go to his next of kin or whoever is in his will? I don't see how POA makes a difference if he's dead.

Agree they need to just get it over with what Thomas has on Baxter. Love the upthread comment about Moseley: Zero to Hero. Ha!

I saw on a documentary that the dog originally used in the series had to be switched out because it didn't get along with the real Highclere owners' dog.

Lady Grantham to Tom on their way to the dance floor: "I know I can trust you to steer."

I feel like there were a lot of loose ends this season:

-- What's Baxter's dark secret?
-- What happened to Michael?
-- What did Michael make Edith sign (power of attorney?) and what will be the result?
-- Did Bates kill Gillingham's valet?

When we only get 8 episodes per season, and we have to wait a year in between each season, it seems like the story should've been propelled forward more. Kind of a boring season overall, I thought.

I think Sybil's memory is one of the reasons Barrow is such a jerk to Branson. He and Sybil worked together at the abbey-turned-hospital during the war.

Barrow really is an arse. But I actually sort of feel sorry for him. Most people treat gossip and the occasional hatched plot as an infrequent indulgence. He is ALL ABOUT that stuff.

I liked the episode. I have to say, however, I'm still missing Matthew. (Sniff)

I love Tom and hope they find him a better love interest. The school teacher is annoying. (Does anyone remember him as Marcus Agrippa in "Rome?" He was hot then and still is).

Lastly, did we ever get an explanation as to what happened to "Patrick?" I'm not remembering and it seems he just disappeared.

Thomas said why he can't stand Tom, it's because he has to call him "sir." If he had continued as a chauffeur Thomas would have higher status as a valet. Thomas is after all very ambitious. He needs an "on-air" love interest.

Do you think Mr. Bates killed Mr. Green? Here's what I think:

I think Mr. Bates went to London to see Mr. Green, and when he found him, Bates told Green that his wife is going to turn Green into the police, and then Bates told Green what happens to rapists in prison. I think Green threw himself in front of the bus out of fear of what he would endure in prison.

Other theories?

I like this theory. That gives me hope that Bates actually got to look Green in the eyes and put the fear of God in him.

As for Mr. Blake, I like him more than Mr. Gillingham; he just seems more appealing and I also have this feeling Gillingham is after Mary for her fortune. At least with Blake being from aristocracy himself, we know he's not in need of money and is interested in Mary regardless.

Totally forgot that! He's definitely a CHILF in my book! (Chauffeur I'd Like to F*ck!)

I hate to say it, Mr. Blake is short. I try to ignore that and focus on his other traits, he seems lacking in sex appeal. I can see him as a dear friend to Mary. Lord Gilliham just doesn't seem to be Mary's equal. I also miss Matthew. My vote is for Evelyn Napier. Hopefully, season five will introduce more eligible men. Isn't it time for Rose to go back home.

I think Bates is somehow involved in Green's death or he just witnessed it. Maybe he was running away after spotting an angry, glaring Bates and accidentally ran out into the street. Mrs. Hughes did warn him that Mr. Bates didn't know it was him but if he did know... Bates sure did seem sensitive when both Mrs. Hughes and Mary made London visit comments. And he was concerned about what he left in his coat pocket. It's odd a couple of episodes ago when he asked Green where he lives, neither Mrs. Hughes or Anna seem to pay any attention.
