Please don't shovel your snow after 11pm .. rant

I've never found snow shoveling to be an annoying sound. I think that sound of metal scraping pavement just triggers good memories of childhood snow days.

It didn't stop snowing near us until 11:00pm and given the forecasted freezing temps my DH shoveled at 11 to avoid trying to "shovel" frozen snow in the morning. Our kids managed to sleep through it.

I agree with you OP. Before 5 AM sucks too.

Especially if you're the one who has to do the shoveling.

Sometimes the choice is between late at night and really, really early in the morning. The snow was going until almost 11pm (they had called for it to be later).

Luckily I could work from home, because to get to work by 7am this morning I would have had to either been out there late or up at 5am starting. Neither is a great option, but has to be done.

I'd much rather my neighbors shovel at midnight, when my kid is dead asleep, than at 5 or 6am, when noise will cause him to wake up early and stay up.

I'm not saying my neighbors have any obligation to shovel on my preferred late-night schedule... just that there's no magical time that will work for everyone. And I'd rather people shovel than not shovel. And while you're at it, clear the top of your car - but that's a whole 'nother rant.

I also wish people wouldn't shovel so late. Perhaps they don't realize that one shovel can be heard from several houses away, keeping my kids awake. I've only heard people doing it once, though. But all the neighbors don't like them now because ofo it.

If somebody did this in the suburbs where I live I would be furious. I would expect that kind of whatever attitude in the city though.

WTF difference does that make?

Geez, they had to shovel after 11 pm and before 6 am, so what's the problem? There is no good time within that window.

It took me over an hour to shovel and I'd rather shovel at 11pm than at 4:45am. I heard my neighbors shoveling at 6am, but I'm not complaining. We all do what we have to do.

I forgot to add that if OP wants to come over at 7am to shovel my driveway when I'm getting my kids up and ready to head to daycare, then please stop by and let me know and I'll be more than happy to even let you use my shovel. You must be a federal employee who had a 2 hour delay to get to work or were already taking the day off because your kids were out of school. Not all of us have your schedule, OP.

How on earth is snow shoveling ... loud??

We had a truck outside around 11ish or midnight cleaning the driveway, but after I registered that it was there, I barely noticed. How do you deal with sirens or traffic if snow shoveling disturbs your delicate equilibrium??

Not their fault that the snow stopped in the evening.

So, you're fine for them to start shoveling their driveway at 3:30 in the morning so that they can finish, shower and get ready to leave for work at 5am, right? They have to do it sometime and their schedule doesn't mesh with yours. Both of you are going to be inconvenienced once every 3-4 years when there is a big storm. Oh well.

Fuck why are we still talking about this?

I thought we established that op is a nut job.
