Please don't shovel your snow after 11pm .. rant

I wasn't happy about the shovelers at 5:45 a.m. today. Different strokes, OP.

Sorry - that was my husband. When it finally stopped snowing in our nieghborhood he went out to shovel. He knew doing it in the morning would be impossible - and DC law requires that you clear the snow within 8 hours of daylight of when the snow stops falling.

Given that we work - that would require it to be done last night - or at 5AM. We chose 5AM.

If you prefer to pay to have someone do this suring the day when we are at work, we would take you up on your generousity.

Couldn't wait to finally use that baby after having it sit in the box all last yr, huh?

People around here are wacko about snow. I'm from the snowy Midwest and no, we don't shovel or use snow blowers at 12 AM. We're more neighborly than that. Just like we don't mow our lawns at 12 AM in the summer.

OP here ... ha! I thought it was within 24 hours! OK, I guess there can be reasons.

This is an issue maybe 1-2 days out of every year around here, and you're really that upset about it?

I shoveled from 8:30 to 9:45 last night. I did it then because my baby was asleep and so I could get outside, and it wasn't yet as absolutely freezing as it was going to be from 4:30 to 5:30 am this morning - which is the only other time I could have shoveled with the baby still asleep and someone (DH) at home to keep an ear out for him.

Which would you prefer, OP? Shoveling noise at 9:30pm, or shoveling noise at 4:30am? Because those were my options.

Yes, I get that we all want to shovel our snow as soon as possible after it stops and before it freezes, since it will be a lot easier. But it stopped snowing at 11pm. There's no way I would go out there at that time and make that kind of noise. I, like every other decent person, realized the job would be harder the next morning, but that's just what you have to live with to be a good neighbor.

And no, they are not shift workers.

Do they do it every night?
Are they making a racket every night?

9.30pm, please.

I think noise should be kept to a minimum between 11pm and 6am. Thank you for asking.

Um ... how does it make me juvenile? It's a rant about people annoying me. Get it? You can start one about me.

If possible, people, kindly shovel before 11pm or after 6am. Thank you.

How often does it snow here? Right...not really a nagging persistent problem OP.

Just for spite, next time it snows, I'm going to set my alarm for 2:30am and shovel.

6AM? I stay up late (not shoveling though!) and sleep in. No outside noise before 9AM please. That's my rant.

The plow came by and scraped our road around 2:30. How do you feel about that?

OP here and I don't have a problem with that. Obviously.

Op, the plows and sand trucks made plenty of noise in the middle of the night last night... Gonna complain about that too?

Exactly. Look, I am the person loudly complaining when I can hear music or partying next door after 10, or if people's dogs won't stop barking, or whatever. But situations like this--yeah, I think it best to shovel right when the show ends and avoid the shitshow of ice the next morning.

People have to get to work so it will either be early morning or late night.

try to be reasonable.
