Every single time someone asks for advice, they get the exact same suggestions. Rose, Grace, Anne, Claire, Jane, Lynn, Paige. Throw in a little Elizabeth and Catherine for good measure.

OP, I think your choices are just fine and make a lot of sense given that you've selected a popular first name and have a common last name as well. Phonetically, I prefer Quinn, Sage or Sinclair.

I would agree. While none of the OPs choices are my style, a traditional first name plus common last name gives plenty of leeway for something unexpected in the middle. I wouldn't bat an eye at any of the OPs choices.

The issue isn't that OP's choices are unconventional. They are pretentious.

Who cares if a middle name sounds pretentious?? It's a middle name for goodness sake, how many do you hear on a regular basis? Frankly I don't know why OP bothered to ask.

There was a lengthy thread on the name Sage a week or two ago and I'm pretty sure not one person called it pretentious. And what makes you so sure that choices like Sinclair and Ellis aren't family names? If I had a nice-sounding maiden name, I'd consider giving it to my daughter as a middle too.

You're right, Sage is the only one that isn't pretentious. And OP didn't mention any of these were family names, so we are working off the assumption that they aren't. As several posters have said, they are ok if they are family names, otherwise they are pretentious.

We care because she asked what we think about these names.

Bliss is pretty awful. I like Sinclair, especially if it's a family name.

OP here. Thanks for all your feedback.

To clarify- None of the names are family names.

Also- do I run the risk of being pretentious and WASP-y if I am a black, not Anglo and a Unitarian?

Of course. If you are not a WASP, choosing a particularly WASPy name can come across as pretentious. A WASP choosing a WASPy name would not be pretentious, because they would probably actually use a family name.

Anything but Bliss.

I agree.

How about Amelia Euphoric?

Yes. Black people can be pretentious, too. Odd question.

Look up what pretentious means. The further you are from being a WASP the more pretentious it is to choose a WASPy name.

Ah OP. can't win here. If you picked any of these, you would be accused of being WASPY and pretentious. If you picked 'Shiqueeta'- you would be accused of being ghetto!

There surely is a happy medium between affected WASPyness and what might be perceived as a "ghetto" name.

I think Amelia Sage is pretty nice. And I don't usually go for recently "made up" names (such as Sage). But as a middle name it's fine, and it flows nicely. Although if your last name has one syllable you might want to choose something with two syllable, for rhythm purposes. But please don't do Sinclair... That sounds terrible with Amelia, and is pretentious unless it's a family name.

First choice is Quinn. Ellis or Sinclair are OK if they are family names and if they flow well with your last name. Definitely not Bliss. Sage is a no for me too.
