I would agree.  While none of the OPs choices are my style, a traditional first name plus common last name gives plenty of leeway for something unexpected in the middle.  I wouldn't bat an eye at any of the OPs choices.[/quote]

There was a lengthy thread on the name Sage a week or two ago and I'm pretty sure not one person called it pretentious.  And what makes you so sure that choices like Sinclair and Ellis aren't family names?  If I had a nice-sounding maiden name, I'd consider giving it to my daughter as a middle too.

You're right, Sage is the only one that isn't pretentious. And OP didn't mention any of these were family names, so we are working off the assumption that they aren't. As several posters have said, they are ok if they are family names, otherwise they are pretentious.[/quote]
