Talk to me about personal bankruptcy

You can't double count your dependent care savings and child care expenses. Are you fed? Don't your government loans get reduced after x number of years of service anyway?

Then I loose on the match. The retirement has helped me stay a float with loans.

Two years ago I was paying $1200 a month for daycare in downtown DC. Yes, hard to find, but no, not impossible. I'm assuming you can find something up in SS for less.

You need to learn how to increase your planning skills. How were you planning to re-pay the student loans when you got them? How were you planning to pay for child care when you became pregnant? You sound a bit entitled, but as you say, that attitude hasn't gotten you to a good place. Time for change. You can do it. Sometimes life kicks you in the ass, but you created your predicament. Luckily you have a good salary, and in 10 years you can have the student loans paid off, child will be in public school, and then you'll be in much better shape. It's not that far out.

2nd - please take some responsibility here. Your loan bills are not going to disappear, as much as you want to ignore them. You have a great income and I bet you are more than capable of paying them down if you really try.

I'm the poster who stated above that you can find a one bedroom with laundry for 1500. In DC proper there are English basement rentals for that approximate amount with their own W/D and even some/all utilities included. Look into those and you can live in a nice neighborhood for a reasonable price.

Where? They've not been on craigslist , livelovely, or realtor.com for the last 45 days. I've spent evey lunch looking. Normally there is a laundry inbuildng (basement) especially if utilities are included. I've unfortunately learned the hard way my 2 year old can not be left alone for 45 seconds it takes to dump trash no

With all due respect, you're going to have to become a little less helpless if you ever want your financial situation to improve.

You are right. These are great. I like the one on H street where I can still get my crack fix. And the one with the water stained carpet. Sure there is no mold there- toddles guys

Send the kid to Scrilli School, a neighborhood daycare / preschool that everyone loves and costs $500 a month. Reduce your retirement savings until you are on your feet. You're welcome!

What do I do with the 2 year old while I do laundry? You'd be the same ahole posting here saying I was a bad mom for leaving my kid alone or calling sending her to school with dirty clothes. Furthermore Brookland has too many rapes. That is not the childhood experience she's getting.
Thanks

Can you do it after she goes to bed? Do the sorting and folding in your apartment, so you're only gone for five minutes at the most. What do you do with your daughter when you shower?

I've tried to decrease the retirement contribution and it just gets eaten by taxes and doesn't wind up in my pocket for my car

So you take DD with you with some toys and she hangs out next to you while you do it. It isn't that complicated. You sound incredibly helpless and not too bright. You say you're a lawyer?

Thanks I needed to hear that today.

OP, you sound like a bewildered spoiled brat. Lots of good suggestions here that you just dismiss. Your loan payments are only $900 a month - no big deal. You are "saving" for retirement but spending it through loans. You want your cake and eat it too. It's no surprise you are where you are. Sounds like your parents or someone has bailed you out on all of your bad decisions before, and now they are tired of it and want you to grow up and take responsibility for yourself. You have no idea how to do it, and can't believe life is so hard. Oh boo hoo for you. And good for whoever took you off of their welfare roll. Good luck to you.

Well seriously. Put on your big girl pants. You can't figure out what to do with a 2 year old while you do laundry? I swear you've posted on here before. I remember another helpless person saying their daughter is in the bathroom with them while they shower and they couldn't figure out what to do with her if they needed to get stuff done. And then said the same line about getting bashed if you left your kid alone.

I know teen moms who have more common sense than OP. Sheesh!

Ok. But, no. Nobody has ever bailed me out. I wouldn't have undergrad debt if I had help.
I'm also used to working more than 1 job so please don't start down the lazy path either.

Wasn't me. But it's true.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions.
