Yes. On Wisc. Ave. today, a young man driving a small black hybrid Ford SUV was driving obliviously as a fire truck was hurtling down the street and other cars were trying to get to the side of the road. I thought his car would either hit the fire truck or any number of cars who were moving towards the curb. He was not texting. He was just oblivious and inexperienced. Oh, by the way, he had an STA and Cathedral sticker on the car. I don't think this warrants a call to the school. I raise this so that parents might question of letting their young drivers out on the street, during rush hour, on a regular basis. |
| I agree that putting your HS kid in a car like this, is the biggest parenting error, along with sending them off to parties to get drunk and drugged. |
| I've seen lots of adults who shouldn't be driving on city streets. Ever. |
Are your kids younger than 10? Could you afford to buy a car for the teen to drive? |
Bunch of busy bodies. Im sure you are the perfect driver.... this board is a joke. Mind your own store. You likely live in a glass house... stop throwing stones and get a life. |
| Actually Washington DC just got voted the city with the worse drivers. I'm sure that while some of them are kids most are the parents and adults driving to work. EVERY single person in their cars is now texting, distracted, changing radio stations, putting on makeup, has a dog on their lap, feeding their toddler in the back seat, and the list goes on. People should not text and drive. Set a good example for your own kids. |
Yep they are bad drivers and they are angry. People go through stop sign, not yield, speed up to stop traffic and cut in, and speed. |
This is "the biggest parenting error" .... really. How do you know that the car isnt used and that the kid may have worked for it and earned it. Its all relative. The family may be able to easily afford a Maserati and the kid may be driving a 10 year - 100K miles SUV. Sure your life would survive such scrutiny. By the way - you say this is the "biggest parent error" likely means you are committing many more serious and egregious errors than this one. |

10:20-- I think the observer should call NCS/STA. This forum is to help parents/families with issues. Informing the community of all of the above student drivers and their behavior is appropriate.

FWIW, estimated value of a 2008 Lexus SUV is $16-18k. Not very extravagant for most families who can afford private school. |

| I live close to a MCPS high school and one afternoon there was a car with a group of boys that were driving recklessly - speeding, passing cars (there is no passing lane on this street) and weaving in and out of traffic with the music blaring. I wrote down the license plate number and called Montgomery County police non-emergency number. I told them what was happening and that if I was the parent of this teenage driver, I would want to know that they were driving in this manner. They agreed and said they would follow up with the owner of the car. Kids are learning and at times make bad decisions - if it's a decision that you feel could endanger them or someone else, make note of the license plate and call police. |
This poster is the reason we have so many issues with kids today....parent you are the problem! |
| ^ Agree! |
I assumed this response was a kid. |
