Sidwell student driving Lexus SUV - Crazy texting and driving . . .

Anonymous
Dark colored SUV, driven by young curly haired male. Came within an inch of sideswiping me heading south on Wisc. Ave. He was seemingly surfing the net on his Iphone while also yucking it up with a girl in the front seat. Talk about multitasking. Window has something about "Stay Classy" and Class of 2014. Turned into Sidwell. If this is your DC, please speak to him before it's too late.

K, I'll let him know.

In America we can drive it is safer

I hate texting and driving, but calling a teen out on a public forum is not cool. I'd have the cops monitor the situation before I'd ever give details like this on a forum.

And the cops would do what, exactly? Oh right, they would be there to block off the street after the accident happens, call the ambulance, and then the tow truck. Yeah, let the cops handle it.

I disagree. As a parent I would want to know. If I was OP, I would also call Sidwell to report it. Lives are at stake - really.

No-- we noticed a teen speeding in our neighborhood. A cop set up "watch" for the time he got out of school. Cop scared the kid and the behavior stopped.

But, your post is going to solve the problem instead, so no worries.

I would also call Sidwell to report it. But posting on an Internet forum accomplishes nothing. I would want to know as a parent, sure. But I'd be absolutely pissed about these details being posted about a teen on a local forum.

You must live in Chevy Chase.

I don't know about accomplished nothing. I've come to the conclusion that every mom I know at our Big 3 reads this forum.

Call the school. Posting here is just gossip, calling the school is the only thing that will accomplish anything.

If I were his parents, I would be upset if the school got involved. OP did not say this occurred on school grounds. So why should they be involved?

I'm a Sidwell parent and I have no idea who this kid is, but I would urge you to call the school. Ask to speak to the dean of students or the assistant dean. The school takes reckless driving very seriously.

He's a senior. No one was hurt. No accident occurred. The schools tend to overreact to these things. It's college application season everyone. Would it be fair to have such a blemish for conduct that occurred outside of school? PP said that she would take care of it. Reckless driver will get the message. Enough said.

So you say. Right. Many of these parents are protecting this kind of reckless behavior. Not everyone.
