Boy name - Lucian

I like it. It doesn't remind me of Lucifer at all.

I actually thought about using it, but didn't because of the Underworld movies.

I like your twins' names too. My sister has twins named Finbar (goes by Fin) and Fiona

My thoughts, exactly. Glad I'm not the only one who thought of Harry Potter.

I know a kid named Lucian. Or Lucien, I've only heard it, not seen it spelled. Seems like a perfectly fine name to me, I prefer it to Luca.

Anonymous wrote:Its ok, but kind of weird to make Luca the nickname for Lucian. Luca is a name in of itself, the Italian for Luke or Lucas. It would be similar to saying your son's name is Sebastian but his nickname is Steve. Dont hate it, but it just sounds like you are trying too hard to come up with an alternative, cool name.

Agree.

I love this name!

OP,

First, I really like your daughter's names so ignore the haters. They don't sound "trying to hard" - whatever that means! And really, who cares what others think so long as you love your kids' names?

As for Lucian, I like it. I work with one ... I think he's Hungarian. I don't think evil, the devil, etc. It's a perfectly good name. But I agree with others that Luca is a totally different name, not a nn for Lucian. Pick one and stick with it, or find one you can both agree on.

Congrats!

Yes, this would be the correct spelling - if the OP were thinking about French names.

Do you also think that the correct spelling of "John" is "Jean"?

I agree with this poster. Your girls' names are great. At least op had the balls to post her other kids names.

Do you work with an ENT, by any chance?

Loo-see-en is more the French spelling, Lucien. Loo-see-on would be closer to the phonetics of the Spanish version. Lu-shen is the Anglo pronunciation.

DH and I are still throwing names around. I like Luca he likes Lucian (and you can spell it either way )

I don't know about trying to hard. My DH and I don't sit around thinking let's be totally different than out family/friends. Let's just be way out there! We just pick names we feel we like at the moment.

For someone who thought of Lucy - with my girls that was on the list for one of them.
For those saying Satan or Lucifer. Never thought of that (glad we're atheists and won't be heading to church any time soon)

More than likely it may change. But maybe not. I'm a Libra and can never make up my mind ever! Even with food, decorating, clothes. My DH has just grown to accept it.
I don't seem to mind that Luca is not a nn to Lucian (loo shen for those who asked). I'm sure he won't mind either.
When and if we change our minds we'll be back

You might not mind, but you will get a lot of reactions from pedants (like me and some PPs) who will feel compelled to observe that Luca is part of the Luke/Lucas family of names and Lucian is part of the Lucien/Lucius family of names and they are not the same name. (Luciano is the Italian version of Lucian, as someone pointed out, just like Luc is the French version of Luca.) Personally, that would aggravate me as a parent, to be receiving that and I would avoid it.

That being said, I love the name Lucien/Lucian, it's my nephew's. Also like the name Luca, I know two sons of friends from college with that name.

Isn't there some islands with a similar sounding name? When I look at the name, I think of Lucifer.

+ 1. I love your girls' names, OP! I think Lucian is fine, and NOT trying too hard. Lucian has too many pronunciation issues for my taste - similar to Lucia - but it's a nice name.
