Boy name - Lucian

What's with all the weird name posts lately?

I actually like the name. I know one in his 40s.

I do think it might be a little much with your other names. A little TOO "creative" if you will. I like Fallon (I know an adult one) and Fiona. All three together is getting into trying too hard territory. Although, you would at least be consistent--names that aren't made up, but currently very uncommon.

Why is any name that doesn't meet the John, James, Henry, Charles, Jayden, Aiden, Brayden, Michael, Kevin, Steven, Jacob, etc threshold get described as "trying too hard"? What does that mean?

Or better yet, give examples of names that are NOT trying too hard.

What is wierd about Lucian? It's a pretty normal name. It may not be super popular, but it's a "real name" (i.e., not some made up derivative of Aiden) and is very old - rooted in Latin. Means light.

I don't think it's weird, I think it's hideous. But obviously tastes vary!

Reminds of Lucius, which reminds me of Lucius Left Foot, which reminds me of Big Boi. Yes, my brain works in an unorthodox fashion.

And my spelling and typing are terrible too, apparently. Lucious.

Spell it correctly: L-u-c-i-e-n.

OP here

DH and I are still throwing names around. I like Luca he likes Lucian (and you can spell it either way )

I don't know about trying to hard. My DH and I don't sit around thinking let's be totally different than out family/friends. Let's just be way out there! We just pick names we feel we like at the moment.

For someone who thought of Lucy - with my girls that was on the list for one of them.
For those saying Satan or Lucifer. Never thought of that (glad we're atheists and won't be heading to church any time soon)

More than likely it may change. But maybe not. I'm a Libra and can never make up my mind ever! Even with food, decorating, clothes. My DH has just grown to accept it.
I don't seem to mind that Luca is not a nn to Lucian (loo shen for those who asked). I'm sure he won't mind either.
When and if we change our minds we'll be back

My first thought was Lucius, as in Malfoy. Other than that, I don't hate it (I don't think it is quite so out there as other PPs do), but I don't love it. It does seem to fit well with your daughters' names.

I love it pronounced the French way. Otherwise I also love Luca. Not a fan of 'Loo-Shen' though. Really, if you like it, use it. Absolutely no one is going to meet your son and have their mind go to Lucifer. (or at least not until he is two

I knew a few Lucianos in Argentina. Prefer Julian. Or Declan. Just kidding I hate Declan.
