Yes, I don't understand the part about naming him Lucian (which is a name) but calling him Luca (which is a different name). Unless you can't decide between Lucian and Luca and are splitting the difference?

The only Lucian I can think of is the painter Lucian Freud.

If I saw "Lucien", I would say "Loo-see-ENH" (French nasal). If I saw "Lucian", I would say "LOO-shan".

Lucien is not a great choice, he will forever be correcting spelling and pronunciation. And it seems kind of girly-people will think lucy/lucille at a glance.
So annoying to give a kid a name that they have to explain his whole life.
Luke, Lucas, Luca...all so much better.

Lucian is not some crazy name. It's friggin Latin in origin and goes back thousands of years. It's not Jaiden or Aiden or Steve or Kevin, but it doesn't make it whacky and something a parent "shouldn't do" to their children. Seriously, people, I know it's hard to imagine a world outside of the conventional, but wow.

I agree with the posters who said to name him Lucian or Luca, but Luca is not a nickname for Lucian--it's a name in its own right.
