Ann Coulter, is that you? |
And also, th overwhelming majority of pedophiles aren't "born that way." They are made by the sexual abuse they experienced. |
Illogical argument in that we used to have laws against homosexuality on the books... |
Sexual orientation minorities (non heterosexuals) also have much higher rates of sexual abuse as well as other abuse and traumas and general childhood maltreatment. I don't doubt that pedophiles are impacted as well by childhood maltreatment. However it isn't a 100% correlation. It makes sense that abuse and trauma - that impacts trust, sexual identity, safety, attachment, self-worth, relational competencies would impact sexual orientation as it impacts almost every area of development. However like personality there are innate qualities that for some people override nurture/ abuse. Not all people who have been abused are non heterosexual and not all people who are non heterosexual have been abused. The same is true for pedophiles - not all have histories of sexual abuse - some are just born that way. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20395586 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15803252 http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/01926187.2011.627318#.Ugkyo23ZNC4 |
Maybe not this, but I bet the polygamists are waiting in wings to have their marriages legalized. |
The constitutionality of age of consent laws isn't going anywhere, and you know it. |
Not the gay community's problem. Besides, polygamy seems like it's pretty much a hetero thing. |
There was a time when people said the same thing about sodomy.
|
No, they cannot be faulted that way. If they could find a target of their interest who was able to consent to a mutual relationship, they could pursue it, but the current Constitutional law says that minors under the age of consent as defined by each jurisdiction CANNOT CONSENT. They are entitled to move to anyplace that has an age of consent that allows them to pursue a relationship with someone that they find interests them. Otherwise, they have to heed the local age of consent. There are places with ages of consent as low as 12...but not in the United States. So, your pedophile is welcome to leave the US for any jurisdiction that meets their need. If they don't, they have to follow the local laws. We don't accept illegal behavior that may be legal in other countries here in the US towards adults and we especially shouldn't do so for innocent children. How wonderful it would be if the pedophiles and pederasts were to leave the country for other countries where the age of consent is lower. Until then, we will continue to maintain and prosecute laws based on the local age of consent. |
| This thread is being fed by a hateful, bigoted, ignorant troll. I suggest we hang up. |
Nope. But thank you for the complement
|
That changes nothing. Can't change the past. Must stop further damage. |
It's compliment, moron. Complement means you are a couple. |
Sodomy has been common for eons. When the average person decides to have sex with children, I guess we have something to worry about. Until then, go back under your rock. |
| In your rush to insult, you missed the point 17:47--yes, sodomy has been around for eons, but has been illegal in many jurisdictions. For many, it would have been unimaginable for those laws to change and yet they rightly have. That is not to say that at some point age of consent laws won't change, too. Views on morality are fluid--just take a look back over the last 50-60 years. |
