What was Michelle thinking??

You people should be darn happy that change is here instead of finding faults. I wonder if some of you have a sense of fashion at all. Whether the dress was horrific or not it was her choice, everyone's taste is not the same. Let the people enjoy thir victory you people have nothing better to do!!!!!!

I actually didn't think it was that bad. BTW -- his daughters are beautiful.

Anybody remember Laura Bush's 1st inaugural dress? It was by a Texas designer and she looked like a big red tomato.

This comment makes me laugh! The big red tomato part is so funny!

To 19:34: Ma'am, please take hold of yourself. Fashion scrutiny is an art and a parlor game that many of us enjoy. All celebrities -- a category which now applies to Michelle Obama, whether she likes it or not (and I personally think she loves it) -- are fair game. You can be sure that every outfit Michelle wears to public events, especially in the next 6 months or so, will be commented on, as we seek to define and possibly emulate "her style." It will be fun to see how she evolves in this area.

While Michelle's choice of clothes is obviously not terribly significant against the back drop of serious issues here,

It's still fun and interesting to talk about. No harm done. If you don't think it's worth wasting time on, why don't you skip this thread?

While I agree that Michelle's dress wasn't the greatest look ever, at least she was -- is is always, as far as I can tell -- dressed appropriately. Catty as it may sound, I was sad to see that Ms. Palin was dressed so casually both to vote for herself as VP and when headed home to Alaska. She didn't have to be dolled up, but all the others who were pictured casting their votes at least looked respectful in suits or jackets. She looked like it was just another day on the couch.

I agree. What was with the purple walmart sweatshirt and hood?

This post is not meant to be offensive, but does the color scheme the Obamas chose have any special significance (i.e. the black and red motif) ? I am just curious if it is a symbol of black pride and that is why it was chosen.

I'm not sure if the color scheme has any significance. But I found it amusing that they were so matchy-matchy (her dress matched his tie) like they were going to the junior prom. She just needed a corsage.

Are you serious? It IS offensive. And ridiculous.

Come on. The poster is simply asking a question. Remember, the only stupid question (and/or offensive one) is the one not asked.

Frankly, I don't know if there are special colors for black pride, but the popular African nationalist colors are green, yellow, and red. Frequently, black as well. Regardless, I would be surprised if Obama had any interest in highlighting black pride that evening.

The dress was designed by Narciso Rodriguez, while no the greatest choice, it is not bad. I think the problem was the little jacket it just doesn't go with the dress. Also the design is only in the front, it should go all around.
check the WAPO for insights.

In her defense (and I rarely find myself in this position), I htinnk she was making a political statement that the Neiman Marcus stuff is not Sarah Palin, and once back in Alaska, she was Jill Sixpack again.
