What was Michelle thinking??

Palin was wearing a $150,000 dress?

I think Michelle looked wonderful along with her daughers. The colors were beautiful together.

I doubt the world leaders care what Michelle is wearing since they had to deal with frumpy Laura Bush and boxy Hillary Clinton. Michelle will look fine.

And PP who did NOT like what Michelle wore, said it was embarrassing. Well, I think YOU need a lesson in dressing. You look funny and your clothes are out of style.

No. This is a reference to the $150k Palin wardrobe malfunction, remember?

There was no way to miss it as they walked out on the satge. She was not in view during the acceptance speech. I did not vote for Obama but was so happy to see her choice of dress. It made me see her as a down to earth woman who has better things to worry about than clothing. More power to her!

which was dwarfed by Cindy's $300K earrings.

The problem with the dress is that it was chosen in a shop that did not have TV lights and cameras. The red glowed like parts of the dress were ablaze.

I would call it a gaffe of minor significance that it was not vetted by someone with TV expertise. So inconsequential, in fact, that I am a bit embarrassed extending this thread.

Michelle Obama is a graduate of Harvard Law School and a very successful advocate.

I'm embarassed to think that some people think that her dress makes her an "embarrassing" first lady.

Abigail Adams, Eleanor Roosevelt, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama-- strong, smart women who do credit to the White House.

I'm proud as hell to have Michelle Obama as our First Lady.

I think the 9:37 link is to the wrong dress. This is it.

Anonymous wrote:The point re: Michele's ugly dress vs. Palin's $150k is that while Michele's outfit was ugly (I commented on this at the time to my DH) and not at all flattering from, uh, behind, it looked like a normal, run of the mill outfit that a normal, run of the mill person would wear. She wasn't dressed up like some richer-than-thou, priveleged fashion plate.

Really? Since when does a normal, run of the mill person would wear designer Narciso Rodriguez, whose dresses are sold at Bergdorf's and the like and run in the 1-2K range?

That link includes a retrospective of former fashion choices that put this little misstep in perspective.

Yup, that was UGLY. I doubt it will happen again. She should sit down with S. Ferguson and have a chat about the consequences of those kinds of choices.

The family is on the cover of the Post today and THEY ALL LOOK GREAT.

The dress was Narcisco Rodriguez and it's from his upcoming spring line '09. Didn't work on TV, but in person I bet it looks amazing.

Anybody remember Laura Bush's 1st inaugural dress? It was by a Texas designer and she looked like a big red tomato.

She took a risk. However, I do wonder if this is a case of the Emperors New Clothes. That is, does she have people around her that are willing to tell her that her outfit is off?

Can't believe it. Washingtonians talking about fashion? that is pretty impressive.
