Can a catholic be a true prep? |
Plus, authenticity is important to a prep. Would real prep live in a place called "view" or live in actual chevy chase? |
Hmmm. Maybe you have a point but I agree with PP they surely look the part. |
Sorry didn't post quickly enough. This was in response to the Holy Redeemer in Kensington post. |
Although Wm f. Buckley was catholic and he seemed a major prep. |

http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/9720-Carriage-Rd_Kensington_MD_20895_M54911-09275 This is Chevy Chase View....drive through it and you'll think it's even better than CC. Very small town, close knit community vibe. Everyone knows everyone. Downside: everyone is white and republican. All SAHMs, and a bit Stepford. |
^^^think Thurston Howell from Gilligan's Island or is that dating myself too much? |
Like a poor mans ccmd. |
If you consider million dollar homes, private schools, country club memberships, and beach houses in Bethany poor, then I guess so. But there's zero diversity here....all white, catholic and republican....can't say that about Chevy chase. |
That may be true, but it is not preppy. It's a clique. Sounds like the Blessed Sacrament subculture. Might be something, but they will never be considered true preps. But who cares really? It's just that is the purpose of this thread. |
Not the BS crowd. I'm telling you I saw several grown men wearing critter pants at Christmas eve mass at Holy Redeemer. It's preppy. Go to mass there on Easter and look at the clothes. The moms are super thin, tan, toned, blonde with bobs with high end preppy clothing. If that's not preppy, then I don't know what is. Please post links to preppy images. I think you might not understand what upper class preppy is. |
From Wikipedia...preppy fashion....see below. THIS is CCV/HR.
Preppy fashion started in the late 1940s and 1950s as the Ivy League style of dress.[6] J. Press represents the quintessential preppy clothing brand, stemming from the collegiate traditions which shaped the preppy subculture. In the mid-twentieth century J. Press and Brooks Brothers, both being pioneers in preppy fashion, had stores on Ivy League school campuses, including Harvard, Princeton, and Yale. Newer outfitters such as Ralph Lauren, J. Crew, Vineyard Vines, and Elizabeth McKay are also frequently perceived as having preppy styles, with designers such as Marc Jacobs and Luella Bartley adding the preppy style into their clothes in the 1990s.[7] New York City maintains itself as the headquarters for most preppy clothing lines, such as J. Press, Brooks Brothers, and Ralph Lauren, underscoring the preppy subculture as a reflection of Northeastern culture. Examples of preppy attire include argyle sweaters, chinos, madras,[2] Nantucket Reds,[2] button down Oxford cloth shirts, and boat shoes.[2] [edit]References |
. Anyone can ape the prep style of dress. Prep is so much more than the clothes. I think you may not know what upper class preppy is. Real preps don't think that much about the style. It's just ingrained. Difficult to explain. |
You clearly don't know anything about CCV or HR. I'm an alum, so I know. It's so preppy that it's an enigma. The people who live there are original owners and their adult kids who buy into the area whenever a house comes on the market. It's like Greenwich, but everyone is catholic. You just won't understand it unless you've experienced it.
Go to Easter mass and count the bows on the girls. They wear them in a certain way (top third of hair pulled to the side with a preppy bow like the ones from orient expressed). |
