Wendy's cuts hours to dodge O-care

In our market economy companies looking to hire the best available employees will pay the little bit more which the Affordable Health Care Act may require. They will have better, happier, healthier employees and their businesses will prosper.

This. The Hardees down the street is about to get a bunch of applications.

I own a small restaurant, and I start employees at 20% over minimum wage. Throw in a few other bennies, too, things that cost me little but make an impression on employees. My accountant thought there was something wrong with my books when he saw that I finished the year with all but one of the same employees I started it with. My unemployment insurance payments are virtually nil (employer only pays on the first $9000 in wages; once an employee passes that in earnings, no more payments for him/her), my employees call in sick less than half as often as in restaurants where I've worked in the past, and my customers rave about the service.

I can't wait to offer health insurance. I'm going to have the best staff in the country.

You do realize they still get health care -- and we all get to pay for it. Right?

The only ones that should get healthcare on the taxpayer's dime is the truly indigent. Illegals and those that are able-bodied? Not so much.

Untrue. Also anyone who is in need of immediate medical attention. If your uninsured self has a heart attack, we all pay for you.

Doesn't Mexico already have universal health care? And other countries? So they come here illegally, no health insurance, and expect the US taxpayer to foot the bill.

I have never gone without health insurance because I consider it a necessity. I put my priorities in place.

If you think taping up a broken arm is universal health care and treating a cut with dirty water, then by all means, let me recommend Expedia.com....

Despite their poverty, Mexico's life expectancy is 76.2 Ours is only 78.2 and we are the richest country on earth. And they do this on an average cost of $675 per person per year. We are doing something terribly wrong.

Yes, because the statisical reporting of Mexican health is unimpeachable. I bet they have better schools than us too, because you read it on a list somewhere.

My mother went on a cruise to Mexico that was primarily designed for guests who planned to buy drugs or get elective procedures in Mexico.

She came back with a ton of Rx meds.

14:08 (is that you, Sarah Palin?), no one here has said they want to control what Joe Bob does. But how can you not acknowledge that everyone pays for those without health coverage? That folks die because they don't have health coverage?

Oh, they must be lying. Great answer. You are a fool.

The way to fix everyone paying for everyone who doesn't have health coverage is to not treat them. The truly indigent are already covered, so we have no worries there (which is why we don't step over people dying in the street like in India and other 3rd world nations). When people choose not to have coverage then get sick and get care on the financial backs of those that do have coverage, there is no personal responsibility. The youth often do this rather than get catastrophic care. That's not wise and the way they learn their lesson is they have to go into debt to pay for their health care if something happens. That happens enough, and you'd find the youth would then learn the importance of catastrophic care or a more comprehensive policy.

The problem is the young have been taught byliberals they deserve things for nothing, i.e. rights with no responsibility.

It's not a liberal thing, hon. We the People have decided that it inhumane to let people die, in the presence of medical professionals, due to an inability to pay. What's more, we can't verify ability to pay before jump starting every heart that has stopped beating. Do you want the first words out of your doctor's mouth to be, "Before we get started, we have to verify that you are covered. Can you give us your ID card and we'll be back after we run an eligibility check".

The same logic would lead us to reinstate debtor's prison. But the Wisdom of the Founding Fathers made it clear that it was unacceptable.

BTW the legislation solidifying this in the law was signed by Ronald Wilson Reagan. A true liberal if there ever was one!
