Have you ever seen something that disturbed you so much that you have never forgotten about it?

I once went to a presentation on use of force at a law enforcement training center. They said that more often than not, police were too hesitant to use force (firearm, taser, etc.). To prove their point, they showed actual footage from the vehicle camera of a traffic stop gone horribly wrong. The driver got out of his car and taunted the unseen newbie officer. (The camera was mounted at the top of the windshield, near where the officer was standing just outside the vehicle.) Then, over the course of a couple minutes, the driver got a shotgun out of the bag seat of the car and approached as the officer screamed for him to drop the weapon. Then a series of gunshots and a blood curdling scream. Apparently, the officer was shot twice, the second one between the eyes. I will never forget the grainy footage of that (clearly high) driver moving toward the camera with the gun raised....

Yes - about 20 years ago I was a new lawyer and I had to meet with a client at his apartment in SE. The neighborhood was horrible. An older woman answered the door when I knocked and the living room had about 6 babies/toddlers, all in diapers and nothing else, 'watching' some crap on TV, like Jerry Springer, or something like that. It was the most depressing thing I'd ever seen, and I've never forgotten those kids. I'm pretty sure why it's why I'm a social worker now.

I've seen a lot of shitty things in my life but one that always haunts me is when my dad was beating my older brother (probably a 7th grader) with a belt. My brother was trapped behind a door and I vividly remember what my dad was wearing, the color of the belt, how he held it in his hand, the sound it made when it hit my brother, the words my dad was screaming at him, the sounds of my mother whining/crying but not doing anything to protect him. I remember everything about it - the color and shape of the door, the color of the paint on the walls, the trim, the carpet. My brother killed himself when he was 27 and I'll be forever haunted and pained by that memory. And others.

I will be honest with you, while this crime was horrible it was not specially horrible to me. I don't know how to explain without sounding a callus bitch, but I read it and probably will forget it.

However, I came across a story of a guy who used to sodomize, kill and eat his victims and I still think about that. I think Silence of the Lambs (sp?) was based on this true story. What particularly haunts me about this story is that one of his victims, a 12 y old boy, managed to scape while drugged and was found wandering naked on the streets by two women. The killer came and said the victim was his son or brother or something like that.... the ladies didn't believe him and insisted on calling the police. Two patrolling officers came but were convinced by this guy and just let him take the naked, drugged boy with him. He later killed the boy and ate parts of him.

I think I read that the author was brutally raped and her stories are an outlet for her horrible experience.

They're gypsies. Scammers. All over Europe and now in NoVa too. But for a long time this has been very commonplace in European cities. Don't let this weigh you down; she probably has much more money than you ever will.

They drug the kids. Nice, isn't it?

I was in seventh grade and had a class in school basement. The hallways were windowless with rows of lockers. Two girls suddeny started fighting and one grabbed the other by the hair and threw her into the locker right by me. I still remember the thud of her head hitting the locker and her getting up and kicking and scratching the other girl. I had panic attacks walking through that hallway or the next two years because I was so afraid I was going to get beat up. I will not send my kids to public middle school.

19:53 I saw the same video... it was horrifying. The memory that stands out for me is seeing a creepy guy masterbating in cvs infront of covergirl cosmetics. Sigh. No longer easy breezy for me. We made eye contact and then I turned an ran to find security. By the time I found them he was gone. I should have yelled fire or something. A little girl or teen couod have seen that. I think it was 14th and Hor G.

Any animal abuse stories just about kill me.

When I first moved to this area, my ex and I were staying at the hotel he was working for. I was reading the paper - now mind you, we had just moved to the DC area, and there was a story of a young woman who was raped in PG county. Her abductors had cut off her hands and then set her on fire. Her car had broke down somewhere in PG county. I was brutally raped in college by a stranger, so this story haunted me for years.

Then there's the 3 Coble children who were killed in a traffic accident in CA. The parents later had IVF that resulted in triplets.

This is weird , it reminds me of a fight I witnessed at T.C Williams. On the lowest level a boy approached another boy punching him in the ear. Blood squirted out of his ear like it was shot out of a syringe.

One of the stories was about a dad who's car alarm went off multiple times during the day and he looked out the window, saw it was nothing and used his remote to turn the alarm off. At the end of the day when he realized what happened and the police came he tried to take their gun to kill himself.
Yep. I've never forgotten that either.

Believe it or not, something like this happens almost every year somewhere.

Yes, but the extra horrible thing about this is not the usual child died in a hot car; it's the repeated turning off of the alarm as the child struggled for life and their own parent unwittingly ignored their efforts.

I was 17 and driving here in Burke, VA. I had a couple trying to cross across Burke Centre Parkway, he was clearly dragging her across the Parkway. I yelled out to her "Are you ok?" and he just kept pulling her along. I stopped my car, put it in park, and got out. It was obvious she was in distress, he just kept moving along, beating her on her backside. I got back in the car, turned a u-turn around, and followed them to the restaurant they went into. I went home and called 911, and went back out to follow them. Never found them again. I always wonder what happened, 20 years later, here in Burke, VA!! If I could have 5 minutes with him and her..... I'd give him a shit-kick to the jaw, and I'd give her a shit-jolt to the brain - why in the FUCK would you live your life with that low-life??
