Have you ever seen something that disturbed you so much that you have never forgotten about it?

I was just at the top of a set of stairs and he was at the bottom. Peacekeepers came really fast to take him to the hospital and try and find the sniper and they closed off the stairs. I was in shock and could only think to ask how long the path would be shut because I would have to take the long way round back to my office. Bugs me to this day that was all I could think to say. I can still picture his body at the bottom of the stairs all crumpled up.

Bosnia?

We knew a man who had grown up in Bosnia and came to this country after the conflict. Young, cosmopolitan guy, handsome, personable, a photographer at home. Could have been any of us. He was married to a Muslim woman, and the family was attacked for that reason.

Their young baby was swung by his heels into a wall, crushing his head and killing him, right in front of them. The wife was shot in the head, and as she lay in a pool of blood, our friend was beaten and left for dead. He was rescued, in a coma for months, and then in recovery, and brought here.

He was healing very slowly and beginning to be some version of himself again when he learned that his wife had survived and was in a camp. For various reasons, he could not get back to her, and after everything he had been through, this is what made him lose it.

My most disturbing memory is of seeing him walking down the street after he learned about his wife, broken, muttering and gesticulating. So irretrievably altered. We had moved away and were just back for a visit, and I still don't know what ultimately became of him, whether he has seen her again or has recovered emotionally from the shock.

The driver was a middle-aged man, driving alone, holding the wheel with one hand and a pair of lacy women's panties in the other. As he drove, he was sniffing the crotch. He caught me looking and grinned maniacally. Freaked the crap out of me.

That was probably me. I'm pretty sure of it.

Two things for me. One was a young very pregnant woman who was sleeping on the street near where I worked. We called to try to get her help, but she was there for about a week and it was so disturbing.

The other was the bloodshot, almost totally red, eyes of the drunk security guard in my college apartment building who got on the elevator with me and sexually assaulted me. His eyes were so red, and I can never get them out of my head.

Several years back, I was dragged by some hippie friends to to a local hippiefest campout where I used to live. I was woken up by a truck making its morning rounds emptying out the festival's trash cans. It got to a place where it had to back up for several feet after accessing a can, and its rear tires were heading straight towards the head of a man sleeping on the ground. There were probably at least twenty other people watching this, and I was the only one who ran towards the truck shouting to make it stop.

I'll never forget the image of all those damned hippies staring blankly at that truck as it almost killed a man, without lifting a finger or saying a word.

That time when a baby’s fingers were eaten by the pet ferret when the parents left the house.

Are you talking about the Piazza scandal or the Sandusky scandal?

I am from Pennsylvania and a couple kids I’ve known since they were small children were perpetrators in the former. Which disgusts me.

When I was 13 the next door neighbor broke into my house and tried to kiss me. He was 20 years old and lived with his elderly mother. My parents did not want to press charges.

He also would watch me from a window when I was home alone. Really creepy dude.

PP’s post was before the hazing of Piazza happened.

I am 65. When I was 7, my next door neighbor friend's dad chopped off his dog's head with an ax. Everyone was screaming. The dad was institutionalized in a mental institution. It was very traumatic. I will never stop seeing that horrible image. Really gruesome.
