Do you wear a quilted jacket?

What is Barbour? Did Haley Barbour come out with a fashion line or something?

Barbour is such a funny name anyway -- means booger in Arabic.

Finally! A useful DCUM post. As a Mississippi Democrat, I am THRILLED to know this information!

Actually mukhat is the proper word but for backwater Mississippi I guess barbour is close enough.

I rest my case.

If you are not a quilted jacket wearer and live in Upper NW DC, then you wear North Face, Lululemon, or Patagonia. These are the labels I see most at certain private schools.

Gosh..100 responses regarding quilted jackets. I have 1. I like it. Until now I never thought twice about it.

Yes, I see those brands on the children at my kids private school. Do you mean the parents too?

Yes the parents . I would add Cole haan, Moncler, and the Searle

I obviously missed the memo (and the thread on DCUM), but what is wrong with my quilted jacket that I wear literally every work day (and yes, wear North Face on weekends)?

I remember last summer learning that at 42 I am apparently too old to wear shorts. Now there's something wrong with the jacket that is the perfect weight for most Washington fall/spring days??

I understand that Talbots, Chico’s, Pandora, any quilted coats (Burberry being especially bad), any capris, and Tory Burch are all bad and I should remove them from my wardrobe lest I appear to be one of the “sheeple”.

So, what may I wear? And in wearing only what is DCUM approved, will I still be “sheeple”, but just of a different flock?

How does this work?

It's simple. You find your style without being addicted to labels. Labels are not style. Many women just buy into logos on clothing, bags, and shoes to openly project wealth or CC debt. Gauche!

Shop the gamut which includes low to high end shops depending on your budget. Perhaps even consult a stylist to help you find your look. Invest in some high end timeless frocks and shop the budget stores for uber-trendy stuff. Don't be a sheep! Definitely remove Tory Burch shoes, quilted coats and quilted CC bags from your wardrobe if you aren't in love with those pieces.

I wear a quilted Burberry jacket, as well as an ancient Barbour that I have reproofed when it needs it, and has held up for years. Best coat I ever bought. I also wear Tory Burch flats on occasion, because i do think they are cute, but usually wear Belgian loafers. In the summer, I'm in Bonannos and the occasional Lilly Pulitzer dress. I don't give a shit about what DCUM has to say about me. And, I'm BLACK! Someone's people don't even know how to judge me.

I wore my LL Bean one practically every day over the winter. It was the perfect weight with a scarf considering the warm winter we had. I'm a teacher and it's perfect on the playground. I'm not a label whore at all (my salary, as you can imagine, is rock bottom for DCUM standards). It's just been a sturdy, serviceable jacket for me. Didn't realize there were any connotations. Thanks for informing me. Lifelong learner here!

Are you f'ing kidding me? There is a four page DCUM thread to debate what is simply the fact that different brands and styles of clothing tend to identify people in different socio or economic groups. Are you people idiots or what? We all buy products and brands that are appropriate to our socio economic group, and if you think you don't, you are crazy. My personal favorite are the women who bitch about Lululemon and other more costly brands, and then boast how practical they are wearing Target, REI, and the like. Well I have news for them. They buy Target and REI to boast about it because it conveys something about themselves. They WANT to be viewed a certain wait (usually more evolved and less influenced by brands). You fools, that is the image that Target and REI sell. Everyone is buying into some brand and the image it coveys.
