Ledos

Why does the sauce have to so sweet? I don't remember it being like that 30 years ago in Adelphi.

Love the crust.

My friend used to handle their account for SYSCO and said they bought double fatted cheese.

Can't believe it's got any healthy aspects at all.

Miss Tommy Marcos a lot. (founder)

DH loves it. He has lived here 20+ years. I am not a fan...

I'm a fan, I like the sugar in the sauce deal. And yeah, I'm from here.

Same. This was the pizza place my mom and grandparents went to - they lived in that neighborhood by College Park. I used to go there as a kid too. So it's in my blood - love it. But, it's the only pizza I've found that I like in the DC area (suggestions anyone??). I find that generally speaking, Baltimore has much better, New York style pizza almost anywhere (perhaps the only thing I like about Baltimore).

DH is from here and loves it (but swears that the original location is the best). I am not from here but went to UMD and I think its ok. Not my favorite but I don't mind it every now and then. My mother HATES it--refuses to eat there when she visits.

I think for those who are from here, its about nostalgia and when they eat it, it brings back memories. Like going to your favorite bar in college during alumni weekend. You would never hang out there normally but its fun every now and then.

I ate there once. Got violently ill that night. Can't eat ANY pizza anymore.

Someone was telling me the original Ledo's is owned by one of the original owners, while the rest are owned by the other original owner, who split up at some point. Anyone know the story behind this or if it's true?

I honestly can't understand why DC cannot get pizza right; even Pete's Apizza has a lack of consistence with the sauce and the crust. Is it that the staff just refuse to make it in a consistent way? Is it the water? WTF?

Hey, you forgot Jersey, which is almost the same as NY. You're getting on shaky ground as you get into New England. For example, Pete's is New Haven style pizza, and it's nothing like I had growing up (and I'm not a fan).

Anyway, if you like NY pizza, try to brave the lines at The Italian Store off of Lee highway. If you ever get tired of the subs (as if!), the pizza is the best around here.

Oh, and Ledo's is garbage.

NE Pennsylvania girl here and I would argue that our pizza, along with NY and NJ, is the best. Big Italian communities means excellent pizza. Pizza Hut tried to set up shop 25+ years ago in the next town over. They lasted approximately five months before closing up shop. Dominos, Papa John's and others learned their lesson from the Hut.

Ledo is OK, but it doesn't come even remotely close to the mom and pop place near my dad's house. Mamma Lucia and Luciano's (Tysons Corner Center) are the best, at least in an area where people consider Papa John's good. Still not as good as a slice from PA, NY, or NJ.

I am from here. I like it b/c it's tasty but I don't really put it in the same category as real "pizza." But mostly, I just think the place is so darned dirty!! The one we go to is the Reston location and we never go anymore b/c they had a massive fruit fly problem the last time we were there and that was just the last straw. I was so tired of the slow bad service and the dirtiness.

Tommy Marcos was the original owner. His son franchised it, which is why it's everywhere now.

I grew up in NJ and lived in NY for many years and I did not like Ledo's pizza at all. The only pizza that I liked in the DC area was from Mamma Lucia.

Light cheese is better than the original version. but it always upsets my stomach ... tastes good but then ...

Jersey girl here, relocating to DC this year. Have been sadly disappointed in the pizza offerings around here. Having said that. I enjoyed Ledo the one time I went there (in Bethesda). I think the trick is not to go in comparing it to anything else. It was tasty, even if nothing like the Northern NJ slices I grew up on.

Agreed. If you are looking for the fold-over, greasy, sloppy slice you grew up eating in Jersey -- this ain't it. Like most things, New Yorkers have a superiority complex -- their bagels are better (We know! it's the water!), the pizza is da best (yeah yeah), their snotty privates are better than our snotty privates. Blah blah.
