What makes a man a unmanly...

Guys who act confident but its obvious from everything they do and do not do that they are not.

a man who is ultra-macho, ultra homophobic, ...they're hiding something. Look at Senator Craig - a homophobe who is gay himself.

Totally agree with this! You mean, I instead of my husband should drive the kids around all the time so he won't be seen in our minivan!?

New poster here. I think (hope) that most of you have misinterpreted the original post (or perhaps the OP meant something else by "unmanly"). There are differences in personal tastes and turn-offs, but does it make a man less of a man (i.e., unmanly)? There are certainly things I'm not attracted to, but geesh, does that mean he's less of a man does it? Some things yes. I think a man who is homophobic or is cruel to others is less of a man. But some of this other stuff is purely about personal taste and doesn't make you less of a man (being fat). Imagine if someone said you were unwomanly because you were fat or too skinny? Or unwomanly because you drive a motorcyle or truck?

A real man is a good father, helps around the house without being asked, plays with his children and enjoys it, is an equal partner with his spouse, competent at his job, but isn't a workaholic Any man who isn't all of these things is not "manly" to me.

This sounds like the perfect man/husband to me. Do many of these exist?

A man who is mean to, and lashes out at, his dog and his child if he has a tough day at work is unmanly. He is a weak pathetic wuss. He should bottle it up inside and give himself an ulcer before calling his 4 yr old an "idiot", don't you all think?

I have no interest for a man who cannot role up their sleves and get their hands dirty, doesn't know how to fix a fuse, can't use a drill, and is more worried about clothes than I am.

Just wanted to echo that. I'm sorry, too.

A real man controls himself and lives within the household budget and partners with his spouse on a financial plan instead of sabotaging it. Double lattes with a scone or just a cup of coffee - jeesh!
