Woodsy neighborhoods with SFH under $800K?

Anonymous
If you like mid century modern architecture I would look at Hollin Hills or Wessynton, both off the GW pkwy in the Fairfax County part of Alexandria. Both communities are very wooded, with large, expansive windows so you can enjoy the natural surroundings.

here is one for 750k

Don't just think about a radius based on distance, think about actual commuting methods to get you into work.

We live much further out than many of the places struck out as "too far" yet my husband is to work in an hour or less daily (short of an awful accident or something of the sort) thanks to 2 great commuting options. Oh, and he sleeps both ways.

This is a really close minded post. I live in North Reston (20194 zip) Reston is a great commute to DC with a future metro station getting built right now. I used to work in Downtown DC and would commute taking the Reston East P&R. A bus would come every 10 minutes and drop us off at WFC metro (10 minute drive). 20 minutes later I was at my destination - Farraguet West. My neighborhood is very woodsy with a lot of bike trails and lakes right within walking distance

I work with people who can only afford to live in Woodbridge, Stafford etc so I hope these people won't ever have the displeasure of running in the PP quoted.

Are you seriously trying to claim that it takes 20 minutes door to door from Reston to Farragut West? What are you smoking and can I have some?

PP here who wrote this. From the moment you step on the train at WFC metro until the moment you exit the train at Farragut West it is 21 minutes assuming that the train only makes stops at stations and not in between stations

16:56 again. I too would be thinking about Burke -- is the VRE not an option for you?

Ugh! I like to sleep in bed. I would hate to be in transit so long that I could fall asleep.

And I would hate to spend half as much on a home as many are speaking about -- to each their own. Mortgage paid off and I like it that way.

Mantua in in the close-in part of Fairfax, zip 22031. Very good school (Woodson HS), and you can get something nicely updated in your price range.

22030 . . . near Fair Lakes. Older neighborhood behind Merrifield Garden Center, zoned for Willow Springs and Fairfax Villa schools.

GREAT neighborhood and much less than what you are looking for.

For the Reston commuter--forget just the train ride. What's the door-to-door?

Haha. PP you must know nothing about Mt Pleasant, I used to live 2 blocks from this house and it would hardly qualify as "wooded", more like you can see trees at the busy intersection of Klingle during rush hour!

I second this. You can get a house in the area of Lake Needwood for $500,000.00. Very woodsy.

I grew up in this neighborhood. At the height of things houses were going for $720 to almost $900,000. I have no idea what they are now. Also, I would not want to move there to go to the public schools for that neighborhood (and yes I did go to them).
