| Please recommend any neighborhoods you are aware of with a woodsy, country feel where we can purchase a SFH under $800K, or in that ballpark. We have no preference between VA and MD. We have small children, so good public schools would be great (but we are not opposed to going private for the right neighborhood). We both work in downtown DC so a commute relatively close in is a must. Does this exist? |

Carderock Springs neighborhood in Bethesda MD. This one is for sale but needs some updating. Its a great neighborhood with a brand new school finished this year.

| Thanks PPs! I would like commute to be under an hour. We currently can walk to the metro and door to door is about 40 minutes but obviously will not be able to do that for a woodsy neighborhood. We are comfortable staying with the train or driving. |

My friend lives off of Coffer Woods road in Burke, and there are a ton of trees and some really nice houses. A couple of enclaves are very modern SFH homes, but she lives in a section of very New England-y colonials and saltboxes. It's really nice, and not too far from the beltway. (and Burke Lake park, which is awesome.) Her kids are in the public elementary nearby, which is decent. not sure the commute is very good, though; she complains about it. VRE might be a good option.
There are also some homes in Mantua and off of Prosperity Road in Fairfax. SFHs on 1+ acre lots with lots of trees. You can easily get to Dunn Loring metro from there. A driving commute can take 35-60+ minutes depending on when you leave. (I live near there.) Look for schools that feed into Woodson, not Falls Church HS or Fairfax HS. |
NP. Very nice. |
| Drive south down the parkway, south of Old Town Alexandria and you'll find what you are looking for. We love it here. From Old Town to Mt. Vernon...all woodsy, country feel. |
| 2 hours a day commuting is the equivalent of 20 entire days per year. |

Chesterbrook Woods and Potomac Hills in McLean have a woodsy feel, but you won't find much in your price range there. Excellent schools.
Some parts of Falls Church City are very wooded, but the SFH in that price range will be very small, and it's a small-town feel instead of a country feel. Excellent schools. Lake Barcroft and Sleepy Hollow in Falls Church also have the woodsy feel that you're looking for. Sleepy Hollow Elementary is very good, but you may consider going private for middle/high school. Congressional Schools (private PK-8) is very close. |
| I posted about the Carderock Springs nieghborhood in Bethesda-- right off River MD, close to Beltway, you can take the bus to Friendship Heights. Drive to Dupont takes about 35-40 mins if you leave by 7:30. Longer if you need to go to the Hill. |

Burke is too far out for my personal preference (I'm not OP) but that is woodsy and offers a lot of home/property for that price.
There are lots of spots in Annandale, including some within the beltway and some just out, that fit the bill. Mount Vernon part of Alexandria. |
| Vienna, 22182, parts that are right by the W&OD trail. |
| Bannockburn? Could probably find an older rambler in that price range. |
| How about the Ashton/Olney/Brookeville/Laytonsville area? |
