This is a really close minded post. I live in North Reston (20194 zip) Reston is a great commute to DC with a future metro station getting built right now. I used to work in Downtown DC and would commute taking the Reston East P&R. A bus would come every 10 minutes and drop us off at WFC metro (10 minute drive). 20 minutes later I was at my destination - Farraguet West. My neighborhood is very woodsy with a lot of bike trails and lakes right within walking distance

I work with people who can only afford to live in Woodbridge, Stafford etc so I hope these people won't ever have the displeasure of running in the PP quoted.

I agree, it's dreamy to drive down the parkway. We live in Wellington, and I love our neighbhorhood, along with the neighbors! We can be in OT in 4 minutes, with DC up the parkway.

We have such little crime too, and children play outside - it's just lovely.

OP, we were in the same situation last year at this time. We found a home in the Clarksville, MD area and we totally LOVE it. It's a little bit of a commute (but ~2/3 of it is rural), lots of woods, and Howard Co. has some of the top public schools in the country. Good luck to you and your family!!

In Bannockburn you can get a house that needs work but schools are good and commute is reasonable -- down canal rd or mass ave into DC. These are not my favorite style of home but that's what you get for this price point in Banockbur/Pyle/Whitman schools. People are nice too!

It is more than 20 minutes from WFC to Farragut West on the Orange Crush Line, for sure. Doesn't make it a bad commute, but let's be realistic. I live in Vienna, so I am no NWDC or North Arlington only snob.

Parkwood (Bethesda/Kensington) is a great woodsey family oriented close in suburb. Coomute to Metro Center about 45 minutes by car or metro.

What about Lake Barcroft? Don't know about schools there, but for a naturey, country feel, it is absolutely amazing.

Are you seriously trying to claim that it takes 20 minutes door to door from Reston to Farragut West? What are you smoking and can I have some?

Barnaby Woods in upper nw dc. There are a lot of older homes here for around $800K. It has good schools (Lafayette), is right near rock creek park, and is an easy communte via the rock creek parkway to downtown dc. The neighborhood isn't super well-known, but it's a hidden gem.

Wyngate neighborhood of Bethesda. It's quick bus ride to downtown Bethesda metro. Woodsy, walkable neighborhood, great schools.

I love Barnaby Woods but OP would have to spend $800K and pay for private schools (according to the orig post). Great commute.

Both these homes seem reasonably nice and are just under $800k.

Woodside in Silver Spring. Some of the houses are still under $800! We love it here!
