Why are people on DCUM so rude and snarky?

I agree. The question should be why are the female posters on DCUM so rude and snarky? I find responses from guys refreshing - to the point, addresses the issue without giving unsolicited opinions, respectful. So the internet, the anonymity affects the women only? Maybe the women need to stop being so fake, pretending everyone's your friend, being nice, keeping with the joneses or whatever isn't letting you "be yourself" IRL.

Er...I was trying to answer the question - that specifically requested analysis of DCUM posters.

Anonymous wrote:Just let it be what it is. After a couple of days on DCUM you know what to expect. If you can't handle it, leave.

So...You freely admit to being bitchy here. (I'm assuming that you're one of the earlier posters.) You have no interest in considering whether you should be nicer to innocent strangers. And anyone who would like to improve the tone of the community by reducing the impact of the minority of people who are nasty should STFU and leave.

That's why I find this thread funny - in a dark way, of course. Coming from an obviously morally defenseless position, the nasty posters are nonetheless eager to dole out advice, while simultaneously acknowledging their own misanthropy.

I have to be nice to everyone - my customers, my family, my childrens' stupid teachers, friends and parents of their friends. Everyone needs to blow off steam and not be so PC. Plus, you can ask things you couldn't IRL - for instance, I can't for the life of me understand why people would prefer to live in an area with lots of poor people if they had the choice. See? It's a really dumb question but there you have it.

This is such utter sexist bullshit. Head over to slash/dot or mefi, wonkette and yes 4chan (actually, please don't) to see what the dudes do when someone attacks their porn addiction or whatever. Both sexes bitch out depending on the topic.

Do you read the comments to newspaper articles?

Thanks for proving my point.

I don't think we're talking about PC or not - I wasn't. You can be blunt, gross, or even offensive without being bitchy.

This is awesome. Your hypothetical example of men being bitchy is a case of a man getting pissed when someone attacks his "porn addiction"* - i.e., his private activity, which wasn't bothering anyone, about which some nasty bitch (presumably) decided to attack him.

Just the way you refer to your children's teachers is interesting . . .And not everyone "needs to blow off steam and not be so PC."

Can you respond to others without name-calling?

Lady parts. Politics. Meat grilling. HTML5. Ice hockey. And they bitch each other out, big time when a woman gets in the middle of them. There is a similar dynamic going on at DCUM.

And have the boy version of a tickle-boner fight when arguing about coding Perl scripts, etc. It is hawt.

I'm just waiting for Red Hat EL 4.9 to come out. Then I can patch all my servers.

This isn't name calling. I was just stating a neutral fact. You can't read page after page after page of a thread in which posters repeat again and again "It's not about the Campbell's Soup" and still NOT understand that it's not about the soup without being a dolt. That's just a fact.

There are some people who never need to blow off steam???? How could that be? A person who doesn't get stressed or angry?
