Read the grading policy. 92 is an A- now.

And with that, this thread jumps solidly off the tracks yet again...

Also, in addition to the AAP Level IV centers (Archer), you can look whether at the community-based level IV instruction is available (Freedom Hill, Flint Hill, Marshall Road, Oakton, Wolftrap) See http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/gt/iphone/faqscenter.html for more info.

IMHO, good vs. great in Vienna is like saying a 99 is great and a 92 is good. PLUUUEASE! ! ! !

LOL!

The good vs. great argument again.

Sorry, but a 5 (Cunningham Park) is nowhere near good.

And you missed the point --- the Great Schools ratings are pretty much B.S.

so those ratings are pretty worthless whatever the score.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's BS, because there's a clear difference between the highest ranked schools vs. the lowest ranked.

But, one person posted that all the schools are fine in Vienna based on the great schools rating...then, she said some are good while others are great....until I pointed out that Cunningham Park was given a 5. Sorry, 5 isn't anywhere near great.

and not "good" either.

I posted that all Vienna schools were fine based on my and my friends' experience with the schools in Vienna. It was NOT based on GreatSchools' scores. I do think most children would do well in any of the Vienna-area schools. I never said they were all the same. Each has strengths. Each has weaknesses. The original list of schools the OP asked about did not include Cunningham Park nor Freedom Hill. Yes, these schools have lower test scores than the other schools. There are more children in those schools with modest or lower income and more ELL students. There is no denying that. That doesn't mean these schools would not meet the needs of children from higher-income families or who are academically advanced. And if they do not, all students in those schools have the opportunity to go on to an AAP at Louise Archer.

Having said all that, this person on here who keeps going on and on and on about schools that are great versus good must plan on moving to the Langley pyramid after middle school. Because the last I checked Madison "only" scores an "8" on GreatSchools. Clearly this is not "great" but only "good." Or he can make sure he is in the Vienna area that goes to the Marshall High School pyramid, which scores a "9." And I hope his/her kids are not in the AAP program that feeds into Jackson, because that school is not "great" either.

And sorry, your pointing out that Cunningham Park scored a "5" does not change my mind about the school. In fact, nothing you has said has changed my mind about anything except that there are clearly some jerks who live in Vienna, assuming that is where you live.

You sure have a selective memory.

First you say that one cannot go wrong in Vienna, that all the schools are fine.

Then, you admit that there are some great, and some good.

Good ain't the same as great.

Now, you're saying that you never said they're all the same, although you lumped them all together as being all fine.

Whatever.

Having moved here from DC to Vienna, I would happily send my children to the "not even" good school Cunningham Park (your opinion), because visiting it makes it look like a rock star compared to most DC schools.

You HAVE NO IDEA HOW BLESSED YOU ARE for the excellence of any of the schools in Vienna in comparison. The quibbles on this post about good vs. great are so minor in the greater scheme of things... as 22:29 said GET A GRIP! !

Side follow up to 21:32, you don't have to go to the center at Archer for AAP. There is community-based level IV AAP instruction available Freedom Hill, Flint Hill, Marshall Road, Oakton, and Wolftrap. [ To the other poster --- Yes, even at Freedom Hill with all those ELL and low-income kids... because you know some of them are pretty dang smart too. ]

That's based on your extremely lowered standards coming from DC.

If you're used to eating out of a garbage can, and someone gives you a cheeseburger, to you, that's like prime steak. To those used to eating prime steak, it's just prime steak.

Get a grip.

Um, shouldn't it be "To those used to eating prime steak, it's just a cheeseburger"?

Epic fail is painful to watch, even when coming from a troll who has no actual experience with any of the schools in question.

Get a metaphor.

No, it's your misinterpretation.

To the person from DC who thinks average schools in NoVA are prime steak, well, that's because her bar is lowered coming from DC.

Those who live in Fairfax County who are used to prime steak (e.g. a great overall school system compared to DC's), it's expected.

Nice try, but your analogy was still inept, unless your point was to acknowledge that all the Fairfax schools in question here are, indeed, "prime steak."

Punditry escapes you.

Sorry, you're the inept one since you don't understand. The comparison was between Fairfax County School System vs. DC School System.

Comprehension escapes you.
