We have been taking care of our mental health since the mid-1990s, so we are Gen-X outliers. I think we watched and rewatched The Breakfast Club, A Beautiful Mind, Reality Bites, Girl, Interrupted, Ordinary People, Mad Love, Pump Up the Volume, Trainspotting and American Beauty and episodes of Party of Five, ER, Family Ties and Facts of Life too many times. Something about the characters' life altering/ending mental health and substance abuse problems got to us. What's up with the Gen X'ers who don't pay attention to their mental health? I’m GenX and agree with this.

However, the 2009 financial crisis hit Gen X hard at a time that impacted their wealth development. They will never amass as much as the boomers did based on the timing of this. It delayed many from acquiring a home to build equity and build portfolio gains. While they themselves benefitted from lower college tuition, they are paying hundreds of thousands to send their adult children to college. The boomers are completely clueless about all this. Millennials have it the worst but IMO GenX is aware of this.

Also, Trump would have never won in 2016 without the massive boomer vote. Boomers welcomed the monster that is destroying our economy and democracy. It will take future generations decades to undo the damage.

For older gen-ex - the dot.com bubble bursting in 2000 also set us back.

Most generations could not count on owning a home and building generational. A certain segment of each generation was able to do that.

Actually Millenials are doing amazing financially. They entered job market at the end of GFC and the market and pay went to the moon.

Meanwhile GenX has dot.com and GFC at their peak earning years, and many lost homes in housing bust because they couldn’t hold on to the Fed bailout.
