Big Island is amazing. The kids will adore Volcano National Park. You can walk on cooled lava, see lava that swallowed roads. What more would you need.
Lovely easy hikes as well, Mauna Kea and amazing stars generally, snorkeling if you like. And agree unless they dislike rice, they’ll be happy with the food choices. Poke, saimin, ramen, all the fruit, shave ice. |
| I loved Waikiki but if I had to choose right now I’d go to Greece |
+1 I don't understand how DCUM is going to Greece and not finding the same "lots to do besides beaches" experience. |
Are you flying private OP? Or commercial? Because that will majorly impact my advice to you .
|
| I’d probably wait a few years and then take kids to Crete - older elementary and middle schoolers are often really into mythology. For Hawaii, agree with those who said the Big Island over Oahu. Volcanoes national park, waterfalls, Mauna Kea, manta ray snorkel if they are confident swimmers, Hilo bay, many beautiful drives, and lots of food that kids like to eat. |
I’m the PP. Sure there are things to do in Greece but it just doesn’t compare to the variety and interests of Hawaii when you are talking about kids. |
Well sure, if your kids are stupid I guess. |
Paradise vs. … |
Young elementary kids aren't stupid if they're more into geology/vulcanology, astronomy and animals than Greek history. My first grader new the name of pretty much every type of volcanic rock we came across. It depends on the kid but lots of young kids gravitate towards science rather than history and art when they are young. And calling kids stupid isn't a good look. |
As if Greece doesn’t have volcanic rock? Constellations? Weirdly competitive. |
Vs history? Is that what you mean? |
They “new the name”? Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree I see. |
I’m not this PP ^^ Agreed at elementary age much of Greece will not land. I would choose BI Hawaii . Also most children aren’t discerning fresh baklava from Motsumoto ice, it’s all the same at that age. |
| I found this conversation, fascinating. Pages and pages of which country is better for vacation with kids without pointing out the obvious – – if you’re wealthy enough to go to either of these places, you can just pick one for this year and go to the other one next year. You can’t go wrong with either one. It’s such a First World problem. |
We recently went to Kauai and this is totally the case. They have all these food trucks where everything is delicious - but each meal costs around $20. Still worth it because the mountains and beaches of Kauai are that good. |
