Why are schoolyard social issues so much harder than anywhere else?

Ask her teacher to let her bring a book she can read in the shade

This, plus kids don't just play with neighborhood kids after school and on weekends, they are in structured activities instead. Like a PP said, they are working out all their social issues in 20 minutes if recess 5 days a week. No wonder it's a mess.

+1 kids really don't get opportunities to free play/socialize anymore.
